“Now I Feel That I Can Achieve Something”: Young Tanzanian Women’s Experiences of Empowerment by Participating in Health Promotion Campaigns

The United Nations (UN) emphasizes that health promotion, education, and empowerment of women are all goals that will help to end poverty. In eastern rural Tanzania, young women who dropped out of school now take an active part in health promotion campaigns in schools and villages through the youth program “Innovative and Productive Youth”, which is administered by the nongovernmental organization Hatua na Maendeleo (HAMA). Modelling and analysis of real-world wind turbine power curves: Assessing deviations from nominal curve by neural networks

Abstract The power curve of a wind turbine describes the generated power versus instantaneous wind speed. Assessing wind turbine performance under laboratory ideal conditions will always tend to be optimistic and rarely reflects how the turbine actually behaves in a real situation. Coastal zone water quality: Calibration of a water-turbidity equation for MODIS data

AbstractA nephelometric turbidity algorithm has been specifically calibrated for coastal waters in Sicily. To this purpose, intensive field campaigns were performed in July, August and September 2008. Measurements were collected in situ in three different gulfs. Statistical analysis suggests that field data should be spatially grouped but temporally separated; hence, new calibration parameters have been proposed.Turbidity retrieved by applying the algorithm using literature coefficients and the ones calibrated in situ are shown and compared. The comparison demonstrated that a specific calibration was necessary for quantitatively monitoring turbidity in Sicilian gulfs.

Intercomparison of spectroradiometers and Sun photometers for the determination of the aerosol optical depth during the VELETA-2002 field campaign

In July 2002 the VELETA-2002 field campaign was held in Sierra Nevada (Granada) in the south of Spain. The main objectives of this field campaign were the study of the influence of elevation and atmospheric aerosols on measured UV radiation. In the first stage of the field campaign, a common calibration and intercomparison between Licor-1800 spectroradiometers and Cimel-318 Sun photometers was performed in order to assess the quality of the measurements from the whole campaign. The size distribution of primary biological aerosol particles in cloud water on the mountain Kleiner Feldberg/Taunus (FRG)

During the field campaign, FELDEX 95 cloud water samples were collected and the insoluble particles were analysed by single particle analysis in order to determine the content of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAP). It is found that 25% of the total insoluble particles are biological ones. During cloud events with increasing wind velocity, the concentration of biological particles also increases. Anthropogenic influence leads to a higher amount of both total and biological particles. Within the size distribution, the percentage of biological particles decreases with increasing radius.

Aerosol closure study by lidar, sun photometry, and airborne optical counters during DAMOCLES field campaign at El Arenosillo sounding station, Spain

We present a comparison of aerosol properties derived from in situ and remote sensing instruments during DAMOCLES campaign, aimed at investigating the equivalence between the instrumentation and methodologies employed by several Spanish groups to study atmospheric aerosols at a regional background site. The complete set of instruments available during this closure experiment allowed collecting a valuable high-resolution aerosol measurement data set. Segmenting the audience of a cause-related marketing viral campaign

Abstract This paper analyses the attitudinal effect of a cause-related marketing campaign which becomes viral through social networks. This attitudinal response is observed in three Internet user segments with different affinity levels: i) strong (familiar with the sponsoring brand and the promoted cause); ii) intermediate (familiar with the brand or the cause); and iii) weak (without previous experiences of either the brand or the social cause).
