Detection of Points of Interest in a Smart Campus

Understanding users' habits is a critical task in order to develop advanced services, such as personalized recommendation and virtual assistance. In this work, we propose a novel approach to detect Points of Interest visited by users of a campus, by using mobility traces collected through users' smartphones. Our method takes advantage of the intentional and recurrent nature of human movements to build up mobility profiles, and combines different machine learning methods to merge sensory information with the past users' behavior. The proposed approach has been validated on a synthetic dataset and the experimental results show its effectiveness.

In recent years, the percentage of the population owning a smartphone has increased significantly. These devices provide users with more and more functions that make them real sensing platforms. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the shape change in hippocampus due to the atrophy in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). To this end, specific algorithms and methodologies were developed to segment the hippocampus from structural magnetic resonance (MR) images and model variations in its shape. We use a multi-atlas based segmentation propagation approach for the segmentation of hippocampus which has been shown to obtain accurate parcellation of brain structures. Such spatial navigation capacity involves the replay of hippocampal place-cells during awake states, generating small sequences of spatially related place-cell activity that we call “snippets”. It is well established that repeated social defeat stress can induce negative long-term consequences such as increased anxiety-like behavior and enhances the reinforcing effect of psychostimulants in rodents. In the current study, we evaluated how the immune system may play a role in these long-term effects of stress. Vibrio harveyi causes disease in seahorse, Hippocampus sp.

A mass mortality among cultured seahorses, Hippocampus kuda and Hippocampus sp., occurred in spring 1998 in Tenerife, Spain. Seahorses were held together with tropical shrimps, Stenopus hispidus, in glass aquaria supplied with 1000 L of sea water at 25 °C. The water supply was conducted between different tanks that contained various marine species, such as octopus, Octopus vulgaris, star®sh, Asterias rubens, sea-urchin, Paracentrotus lividu, greater weever, Trachinus draco, grouper, Epinephelus guaz and Canarian shrimp, Lismata amboiens.
