Surprising solvent-induced structural rearrangements in large [N⋯I+⋯N] halogen-bonded supramolecular capsules

2018

Coordinative halogen bonds have recently gained interest for the assembly of supramolecular capsules. Ion mobility-mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations now reveal the well-defined gas-phase structures of dimeric and hexameric [N...I+...N] halogen-bonded capsules with counterions located inside their cavities as guests. The solution reactivity of the large hexameric capsule shows the intriguing solvent-dependent equilibrium between the hexamer and an unprecedented pentameric [N...I+...N] halogen-bonded capsule, when the solvent is changed from chloroform to dichloromethane. The intrinsic flexibility of the cavitands enables this novel structure to adopt a pseudo-trigonal bipyramida…

Halogen bonding and host–guest chemistry between N-alkylammonium resorcinarene halides, diiodoperfluorobutane and neutral guests

2019

Single crystal X-ray structures of halogen-bonded assemblies formed between host N-hexylammonium resorcinarene bromide (1) or N-cyclohexylammonium resorcinarene chloride (2), and 1,4-diiodooctafluorobutane and accompanying small solvent guests (methanol, acetonitrile and water) are presented. The guests’ inclusion affects the geometry of the cavity of the receptors 1 and 2, while the divalent halogen bond donor 1,4-diiodooctafluorobutane determines the overall nature of the halogen bond assembly. The crystal lattice of 1 contains two structurally different dimeric assemblies A and B, formally resulting in the mixture of a capsular dimer and a dimeric pseudo-capsule. 1H and 19F NMR analyses …

The effect of the genetic background on phage infectivity in an encapsulated host

2023

Oxycodone extended release capsules for the treatment of chronic pain

2017

As a consequence of greater prescription opioid utilization, there has been the parallel increase in misuse, abuse, and overdose, which are serious risks. Associated new formulations may be safer. Areas covered: The introduction of abuse-deterrent opioid formulations and continuous programs to improve opioid prescribing practices may limit the opioid abuse and its consequences. Oxycodone extended release capsules are an extended-release (ER), microsphere-in-capsule abuse-deterrent-formulation designed to retain its extended-release properties following tampering or misuse (e.g., chewing, crushing). Studies have reported that this preparation is efficacious in patients with low back pain, le…

Cancer of the Liver and Bile Ducts

2007

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common neoplasm in the world and the third most common cause of cancer death worldwide. More than 500,000 deaths per year are attributed to HCC, representing 10% of all deaths from cancer. In select areas of Asia and Africa, HCC is the most common cause of death due to cancer. The incidence in Europe and the United States is relatively low but is increasing. In Europe, HCC is now the leading cause of death among patients with cirrhosis. In the United States, epidemiologic studies have demonstrated a doubling of HCC incidence over the past two decades. This increase, which has been attributed to the increasing prevalence of chronic hepatitis C…

Diagnostik eines hochmalignen B-Zell-Lymphoms des Dünndarms mit der Kapselendoskopie

2003

Wireless capsule endoscopy is a new diagnostic procedure to detect diseases of the small bowel, in particular in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. We report on a 76-year-old patient who presented at our hospital with signs of gastrointestinal bleeding and hypochromic anaemia. Bidirectional endoscopy, push enteroscopy, angiography as well as small bowel barium enema rendered no pathologic findings. Wireless capsule endoscopy demonstrated a polypous space in the cantral area of the small bowel. Subsequent intraoperative endoscopy revealed a subtotal stenosing tumour of the upper jejunum which was resected. Based on the histology a high-grade B-Cell lymphoma was diagnosed. The p…

Panintestinal capsule endoscopy in patients with celiac disease

2021

INTRODUCTION Capsule endoscopy has proven its utility in diagnosing villous atrophy and lymphoma in patients with celiac disease. Recently, a novel capsule endoscopy system was introduced which enables the examination of the small and large bowel. So far, it has not been evaluated in patients with celiac disease. OBJECTIVE The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the novel panintestinal capsule endoscopy system in patients with celiac disease. METHODS Eleven patients with histologically proven celiac disease (Marsh 0-IV), who underwent a panintestinal capsule endoscopy between March 2018 and April 2019 at our institution, were included in this retrospective single-center study. A…
