From small to medium and beyond: a pragmatic approach in predicting properties of Ne containing structures
2013
In this study, we outlined a pragmatic approach for structural studies leading to better understanding of polycarbon structures using 21Ne as a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probe. 21Ne NMR parameters of a single neon atom and its dimer were predicted at the CCSD(T) level in combination with large basis sets. At a lower level of theory, an interaction of neon atom with 1,3-cyclopentadiene ring and with five- and six-membered rings in carbazole was studied using the restricted Hartree–Fock (RHF) and density functional theory (DFT) combined with smaller basis sets. The RHF and DFT modelling of neon interaction with nanosized objects were performed on cyclacenes and selected fullerenes.
Local aromaticity mapping in the vicinity of planar and nonplanar molecules
2019
We report on nucleus-independent magnetic shielding (NICS) scans over the centers of six- and five-membered rings in selected metal phthalocyanines (MPc) and fullerene C60 for more accurate characterization of local aromaticity in these compounds. Detailed tests were conducted on model aromatic molecules including benzene, pyrrole, indole, isoindole, and carbazole and subsequently applied to H2 Pc, ZnPc, Al(OH)Pc, and CuPc. Similar behavior of three selected magnetic probes, Bq, 3 He, and 7 Li+ , approaching perpendicularly the ring centers, was observed. For better visualization of shielding zone over the centers of aromatic rings, we introduced a simple mathematical procedure: the first a…
Electrochemical synthesis of carbazoles by dehydrogenative coupling reaction
2020
Abstract A constant current protocol, employing undivided cells, a remarkably low supporting electrolyte concentration, inexpensive electrode materials, and a straightforward precursor synthesis enabling a novel access to N‐protected carbazoles by anodic N,C bond formation using directly generated amidyl radicals is reported. Scalability of the reaction is demonstrated and an easy deblocking of the benzoyl protecting group is presented.
3 He NMR studies on helium-pyrrole, helium-indole, and helium-carbazole systems: a new tool for following chemistry of heterocyclic compounds
2014
The 3He nuclear magnetic shieldings were calculated for free helium atom and He–pyrrole, He–indole, and He–carbazole complexes. Several levels of theory, including Hartree–Fock (HF), Second-order Moller-Plesset Perturbation Theory (MP2), and Density Functional Theory (DFT) (VSXC, M062X, APFD, BHandHLYP, and mPW1PW91), combined with polarization-consistent pcS-2 and aug-pcS-2 basis sets were employed. Gauge-including atomic orbital (GIAO) calculated 3He nuclear magnetic shieldings reproduced accurately previously reported theoretical values for helium gas. 3He nuclear magnetic shieldings and energy changes as result of single helium atom approaching to the five-membered ring of pyrrole, indo…
Combined study of anion recognition by a carbazole-based neutral tripodal receptor in a competitive environment
2012
Anion recognition studies have been carried out on a series of neutral synthetic receptors in which carbazole-2-carboxamide has been used as building block. Different ligands which include one to three carbazole units in their structure have been prepared. Binding experiments have been performed under competitive conditions in DMSO and DMSO-water solutions. The tripodal receptor offered a better host-guest association due to the synergistic effect of a well arranged set of hydrogen bonds. A selective response towards the biologically important pyrophosphate anion has been achieved. This selectivity is enhanced when studies are carried out with an increasing water content, which gets as high…
New potential DNA intercalators of the carbazole series from indole-2,3-quinodimethanes: Synthesis, crystal structure, and molecular modeling with a …
1993
1-Alkylpyrano[3,4-b]indol-3-ones3 react via a Diels-Alder step with an aryne or N-phenylmaleimide to furnish the new [b]annellated carbazoles4–10 in a one-pot process. In an analogous procedure, the in situ generated N-benzoylindole-2,3-quinodimethane (13) reacted with quinones to furnish the dioxocarbazoles14–16. Compounds4–8 and14–16 with a coplanar skeleton are members of a class of potential DNA intercalators, as has been shown for5 and8 by X-ray structural analysis. On the basis of the geometries determined by X-ray crystallography, the intercalative binding of these molecules with a Watson-Crick mini-helix was predicted by molecular modeling methods.
Photochemical electrocyclisation of 3-vinylindoles to pyrido[2,3-a]-, pyrido[4,3-a]- and thieno[2,3-a]-carbazoles: Design, synthesis, DNA binding and…
2009
In the context of the design and synthesis of DNA ligands, some new hetarene annelated carbazoles were synthesized. As lead structure the intercalating tetracyclic systems pyrido[2,3-a]- and pyrido[4,3-a]-carbazoles and in one case a thieno[2,3-a]-carbazole were taken into account. A dialkyl amino amidic chain was introduced to the planar chromophoric system with the intent to generate minor groove binding properties. The cytotoxicity of some compounds was examined by the NCI antitumor screening. Furthermore, biophysical as well as biochemical studies were performed in order to get some information about the DNA-binding properties and inhibition of DNA related functional enzymes of this new…
Carbazole-based green and blue-BODIPY dyads and triads as donors for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells.
2020
Two BODIPY derivatives with one (B2) and two (B3) carbazole moieties were synthesized and applied as electron-donor materials in organic photovoltaic cells (OPV). Their optical and electrochemical properties were systematically investigated. These BODIPY dyes exhibit excellent solubility in organic solvents and present high molar extinction coefficients (1.37–1.48 × 105 M−1 cm−1) in solutions with absorption maxima at 586 nm for mono-styryl groups and at 672 nm for di-styryl groups. The introduction of the styryl moieties results in a large bathochromic shift and a significant decrease in the HOMO–LUMO energy-gaps. The BODIPY dyes show relatively low HOMO energies ranging from −4.99 to −5.1…
Diels-Alder Reactions of (1H-Indol-3-yl)-enacetamides and -endiacetamides: A Selective Access to Acetylamino-Functionalized [b]Annelated Indoles and …
1991
Diels-Alder reactions of the (1H-indol-3-yl)-enacetamides and -endiacetamides 1a–d with some carbodieno-philes and 4-phenyl-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5(4H)-dione give rise to the novel amino-functionalized carbazole; 4–6 and 8 (Scheme 3). Ethenetetracarbonitrile reacts with 1b to furnish the Michael-type adduct 7 (Scheme 3). Structural aspects of the starting materials 1, which exhibit above all 3-vinyl-1H-indole reactivity, are discussed with regard to the prediction of a Diels-Alder process.
Systematic review with meta-analysis: the haemodynamic effects of carvedilol compared with propranolol for portal hypertension in cirrhosis
2013
Summary Background Propranolol is recommended for prophylaxis of variceal bleeding in cirrhosis. Carvedilol is a nonselective beta-blocker with a mild anti-alfa-1-adrenergic activity. Several studies have compared carvedilol and propranolol, yielding inconsistent results. Aim To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the randomised clinical trials comparing carvedilol with propranolol for hepatic vein pressure gradient reduction. Methods Studies were searched on the MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane library databases up to November 2013. The weighted mean difference in percent hepatic vein pressure gradient reduction and the relative risk of failure to achieve a hemodynamic response (r…
