Nanocatalysts for High Selectivity Enyne Cyclization: Oxidative Surface Reorganization of Gold Sub-2-nm Nanoparticle Networks

2021

International audience; Ultrasmall gold nanoparticles (NPs) stabilized in networks by polymantane ligands (diamondoids) were successfully used as precatalysts for highly selective heterogeneous gold-catalyzed dimethyl allyl(propargyl)malonate cyclization to 5-membered conjugated diene. Such reaction usually suffers from selectivity issues with homogeneous catalysts. This control over selectivity further opened the way to one-pot cascade reaction, as illustrated by the 1,6-enyne cycloisomerization–Diels–Alder reaction of dimethyl allyl propargyl malonate with maleic anhydride. The ability to assemble nanoparticles with controllable sizes and shapes within networks concerns research in sensor…

Tandem Nucleophilic Addition−Intramolecular Aza-Michael Reaction: Facile Synthesis of Chiral Fluorinated Isoindolines

2010

A highly stereoselective synthesis of fluorinated 1,3-disubstituted isoindolines is described. To this end, a tandem reaction consisting of a diastereoselective addition of fluorinated nucleophiles to Ellman's N-(tert-butanesulfinyl)imines followed by an intramolecular aza-Michael reaction has been developed. This strategy allows for the construction of isoindolines bearing several degrees of fluorination (mono-, di-, or trifluoromethyl as well as heavier fluorinated groups). In the majority of all cases, the products are formed as single isomers.

Stereoselective Synthesis of P-Chirogenic Dibenzophosphole-Boranes via Aryne Intermediates

2012

A new aryne-mediated tandem cross-coupling/P-cyclization sequence starting from tertiary phosphine-boranes and 1,2-dibromobenzenes is reported. P-chirogenic dibenzophospholes become accessible in a regio-, chemo-, and diastereoselective way.

Multifaceted Palladium Catalysts Towards the Tandem Diboration-Arylation Reactions of Alkenes

2008

Novel Pd(2) (6+) compounds have been synthesized in high yield. These compounds and their Pd(2) (4+) counterparts as synthetic precursors mediate the diboration of vinylarenes and aliphatic 1-alkenes, and under mild and basic reaction conditions they produce a variety of 1,2-diboronate esters with excellent conversions and chemoselectivities. The presence of bis(catecholato)diboron (B(2)cat(2)) favours the reduction of Pd(III) to Pd(II), while the catalytic precursor of Pd(II) is transformed into Pd(0)-nanoparticles. An "in situ" catalytic tandem reaction has been designed to transform the diboronate intermediates into the monoarylated product, which after oxidative workup, provides the car…

A Molecular Electron Density Theory Study of the Synthesis of Spirobipyrazolines through the Domino Reaction of Nitrilimines with Allenoates

2019

The reaction of diphenyl nitrilimine (NI) with methyl 1-methyl-allenoate yielding a spirobipyrazoline has been studied within molecular electron density theory (MEDT) at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) computational level in dichloromethane. This reaction is a domino process that comprises two consecutive 32CA reactions with the formation of a pyrazoline intermediate. Analysis of the relative Gibbs free energies indicates that both 32CA reactions are highly regioselective, the first one being also completely chemoselective, in agreement with the experimental outcomes. The geometries of the TSs indicate that they are associated to asynchronous bond formation processes in which the shorter distance invo…

Asymmetric Synthesis of Spirocyclic β-Lactams through Copper-Catalyzed Kinugasa/Michael Domino Reactions

2018

The first copper-catalyzed highly chemo-, regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective Kinugasa/Michael domino reaction for the desymmetrization of prochiral cyclohexadienones is described. In the presence of a chiral copper catalyst, alkyne-tethered cyclohexadienones couple with nitrones to generate the chiral spirocyclic lactams with excellent stereoselectivity (up to 97 % ee, >20:1 dr). The new method provides direct access to versatile highly functionalized spirocyclic β-lactams possessing four contiguous stereocenters, including one quaternary and one tetra-substituted stereocenter.

Tandem cross enyne metathesis (CEYM)–intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction (IMDAR). An easy entry to linear bicyclic scaffolds

2015

A new tandem cross enyne metathesis (CEYM)–intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction (IMDAR) has been carried out. It involves conjugated ketones, esters or amides bearing a remote olefin and aromatic alkynes as the starting materials. The overall process enables the preparation of a small family of linear bicyclic scaffolds in a very simple manner with moderate to good levels of diastereoselectivity. This methodology constitutes one of the few examples that employ olefins differently than ethylene in tandem CEYM–IMDAR protocols.

Role of the gem-Difluoro Moiety in the Tandem Ring-Closing Metathesis−Olefin Isomerization:  Regioselective Preparation of Unsaturated Lactams

2006

Careful selection of the metathesis catalyst, solvent, and reaction conditions allows for the efficient and regioselective synthesis of isomeric fluorinated and nonfluorinated lactam derivatives II and III from precursor amides I through a ring-closing metathesis (RCM) reaction or a tandem RCM-isomerization protocol, respectively. The presence of the gem-difluoro moiety in the starting materials exerts a pivotal effect by directing the isomerization step, making the overall tandem transformation a regioselective process. The scope, limitations, and synthetic usefulness of this protocol are also discussed.

Understanding the Nature of the Molecular Mechanisms Associated with the Competitive Lewis Acid Catalyzed[4+2] and[4+3] Cycloadditions between Arylid…

2004

The molecular mechanisms of the reactions between aryliden-5(4H)-oxazolone 1, and cyclopentadiene (Cp), in presence of Lewis acid (LA) catalyst to obtain the corresponding [4+2] and [4+3] cycloadducts are examined through density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G* level. The activation effect of LA catalyst can be reached by two ways, that is, interaction of LA either with carbonyl or carboxyl oxygen atoms of 1 to render [4+2] or [4+3] cycloadducts. The endo and exo [4+2] cycloadducts are formed through a highly asynchronous concerted mechanism associated to a Michael-type addition of Cp to the beta-conjugated position of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl framework of 1.…
