Acidic Environment Leads to ROS-Induced MAPK Signaling in Cancer Cells

2011

Tumor micromilieu often shows pronounced acidosis forcing cells to adapt their phenotype towards enhanced tumorigenesis induced by altered cellular signalling and transcriptional regulation. In the presents study mechanisms and potential consequences of the crosstalk between extra- and intracellular pH (pH(e), pH(i)) and mitogen-activated-protein-kinases (ERK1/2, p38) was analyzed. Data were obtained mainly in AT1 R-3327 prostate carcinoma cells, but the principle importance was confirmed in 5 other cell types. Extracellular acidosis leads to a rapid and sustained decrease of pH(i) in parallel to p38 phosphorylation in all cell types and to ERK1/2 phosphorylation in 3 of 6 cell types. Furth…

Cascaded Multilevel Inverter-Based Asymmetric Static Synchronous Compensator of Reactive Power

2022

The topology of the static synchronous compensator of reactive power for a low-voltage three-phase utility grid capable of asymmetric reactive power compensation in grid phases has been proposed and analysed. It is implemented using separate, independent cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters for each phase. Every inverter includes two H-bridge cascades. The first cascade operating at grid frequency is implemented using thyristors, and the second one—operating at high frequency is based on the high-speed MOSFET transistors. The investigation shows that the proposed compensator is able to compensate the reactive power in a low-voltage three-phase grid when phases are loaded by highly asymmet…

Analysis of Viral Advertisement Re-Posting Activity in Social Media

2016

More and more businesses use social media to advertise their services. Such businesses typically maintain online social network accounts and regularly update their pages with advertisement messages describing new products and promotions. One recent trend in such businesses’ activity is to offer incentives to individual users for re-posting the advertisement messages to their own profiles, thus making it visible to more and more users. A common type of an incentive puts all the re-posting users into a random draw for a valuable gift. Understanding the dynamics of user engagement into the re-posting activity can shed light on social influence mechanisms and help determine the optimal incentiv…

Perfluoroketene dithioacetals and perfluorodithiocarboxylic acid derivatives: Versatile tools for organofluorine synthesis

2007

Perfluoroketene dithioacetals are simple and versatile compounds that can be transformed into a large variety of trifluoromethyl derivatives, in particular aza- and thiaheterocycles, perhalodithiocrotonic esters, and fluorinated dithiol thiones. These unsaturated perfluorodithioesters and analogs give interesting polar cycloaddition reactions whose mechanism is strongly influenced by the fluorine substitution. This substitution plays an important role in the reactivity of saturated perfluorodithiocarboxylic acids as well. Except for the carbophilic addition of allyl Grignard reagents to perfluorocarboxamides, a domino thiophilic addition-fluoride elimination was the main reaction process. I…

Search for neutrino-induced cascades with five years of AMANDA data

2010

Contains fulltext : 97339.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) We report on the search for electromagnetic and hadronic showers ("cascades") produced by a diffuse flux of extraterrestrial neutrinos in the AMANDA neutrino telescope. Data for this analysis were recorded during 1001 days of detector livetime in the years 2000-2004. The observed event rates are consistent with the background expectation from atmospheric neutrinos and muons. An upper limit is derived for the diffuse flux of neutrinos of all flavors assuming a flavor ratio of v(e):v(mu):v(tau) = 1:1:1 at the detection site. The all-flavor flux of neutrinos with an energy spectrum Phi proportional to E(-2) is less than 5.0 x…

Atmospheric effects on extensive air showers observed with the Surface Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

2009

Atmospheric parameters, such as pressure (P), temperature (T) and density (ρ ∝ P/T), affect the development of extensive air showers initiated by energetic cosmic rays. We have studied the impact of atmospheric variations on extensive air showers by means of the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The rate of events shows a ∼ 10% seasonal modulation and ∼ 2% diurnal one. We find that the observed behaviour is explained by a model including the effects associated with the variations of P and ρ. The former affects the longitudinal development of air showers while the latter influences the Molière radius and hence the lateral distribution of the shower particles. The model is val…

Zenith distribution and flux of atmospheric muons measured with the 5-line ANTARES detector

2010

The ANTARES high energy neutrino telescope is a three-dimensional array of about 900 photomultipliers distributed over 12 mooring lines installed in the Mediterranean Sea. Between February and November 2007 it acquired data in a 5-line configuration. The zenith angular distribution of the atmospheric muon flux and the associated depth-intensity relation are measured and compared with previous measurements and Monte Carlo expectations. An evaluation of the systematic effects due to uncertainties on environmental and detector parameters is presented.

Pharmacogenomic identification of small molecules for lineage specific manipulation of subventricular zone germinal activity

2017

Strategies for promoting neural regeneration are hindered by the difficulty of manipulating desired neural fates in the brain without complex genetic methods. The subventricular zone (SVZ) is the largest germinal zone of the forebrain and is responsible for the lifelong generation of interneuron subtypes and oligodendrocytes. Here, we have performed a bioinformatics analysis of the transcriptome of dorsal and lateral SVZ in early postnatal mice, including neural stem cells (NSCs) and their immediate progenies, which generate distinct neural lineages. We identified multiple signaling pathways that trigger distinct downstream transcriptional networks to regulate the diversity of neural cells …

Cabut, a C2H2 zinc finger transcription factor, is required during Drosophila dorsal closure downstream of JNK signaling.

2005

AbstractDuring dorsal closure, the lateral epithelia on each side of the embryo migrate dorsally over the amnioserosa and fuse at the dorsal midline. Detailed genetic studies have revealed that many molecules are involved in this epithelial sheet movement, either with a signaling function or as structural or motor components of the process. Here, we report the characterization of cabut (cbt), a new Drosophila gene involved in dorsal closure. cbt is expressed in the yolk sac nuclei and in the lateral epidermis. The Cbt protein contains three C2H2-type zinc fingers and a serine-rich domain, suggesting that it functions as a transcription factor. cbt mutants die as embryos with dorsal closure …
