Colon cancer is a major public health matter because it has reached the second rank of cancer mortality in 2013 in France. Induction of pyroptosis in colon cancer cells by LXRβ.

Liver X receptors (LXRs) have been proposed to have some anticancer properties. We recently identified a new non-genomic role of LXRβ in colon cancer cells. Under LXR agonist treatment, LXRβ induces pyroptosis of these cells in vitro and in vivo, raising the possibility of targeting this isoform in cancer treatment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cucurbitacin R, a natural anti-inflammatory product, has been shown to exhibit activity against both adjuvant-induced arthritis and delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions induced by various agents. Previous studies have demonstrated that the effects of cucurbitacin R stem from its inhibition of both cytokine production and lymphocyte proliferation. Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Inhibition Protects against Excitotoxic Neuronal Injury in the Rat Brain

Elevated brain glutamate with activation of neuronal glutamate receptors accompanies neurological disorders, such as epilepsy and brain trauma. However, the mechanisms by which excitotoxicity triggers neuronal injury are not fully understood. We have studied the glutamate receptor agonist kainic acid (KA) inducing seizures and excitotoxic cell death. KA caused the disintegration of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane in hippocampal neurons and ER stress with the activation of the ER proteins Bip, Chop, and caspase-12. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) is a rare and devastating disease without efficient treatment at this time. Idiopathic FP is characterized by accumulation of myofibroblasts and has a typical sub-pleural onset suggesting a role of the pleura in the disease. Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)-ß1 induces transformation of pleural mesothelial cells (PMC) into active cells exhibiting myofibroblast phenotype.
