CARCINOMA SHOWING THYMUS-LIKE DIFFERENTIATION (CASTLE). A CASE REPORT
2013
INTRODUTION: Carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation (CASTLE) is a rare malignant thyroid cancer. We report a case of CASTLE treated with surgery and adjuvant external neck radiation therapy.MATERIALS AND METHODS: We experienced a case of CASTLE in a 63-year-old man, who presented with a neck mass due to enlarged and hard thyroid gland, most notably in the right lobe, without palpable cervical nodes.RESULTS: Total thyroidectomy was performed for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Histologic examination of the specimen showed a "thymus like" thyroid cancer; the tumor, partially circumscribed, lobulated, involved both lobes, and in more points reached the capsule of the organ and…
Indirect chronology method employing rare earth elements to identify Sagunto Castle mortar construction periods
2017
A novel indirect chronology method has been developed to identify Sagunto Castle construction periods. The method is based on the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to determine rare earth elements (REE) and other trace elements in mortars. Additionally, a no destructive geochemical analysis based on X-ray fluorescence (XRF) was employed for major elements determination. Collected chemical data were processed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to highlight any differences among the mortars belonging to different buildings and construction periods. The results show that PCA analysis permits to discriminate construction periods according to mortar sample REE …
Mario Caimi, Kant’s B Deduction, Newcastle upon Tyne, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2014.
2019
The volume by Mario Caimi – published in the series “Kantian Questions” edited by Pablo Muchnik – presents the English translation of his previous Leçons sur Kant. La déduction transcendentale dans la deuxième édition de la “Critique de la raison pure” (Paris, 2007), originated in a lecture he held at the Sorbonne in 2004.
TLR3-induced activation of mast cells modulates CD8+ T-cell recruitment.
2005
AbstractMast cells play an important role in host defense against various pathogens, but their role in viral infection has not been clarified in detail. dsRNA, synthesized by various types of viruses and mimicked by polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) is recognized by Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3). In this study, we demonstrate that poly(I:C) injection in vivo potently stimulates peritoneal mast cells to up-regulate a number of different costimulatory molecules. Therefore, we examined the expression and the functional significance of TLR3 activation in mast cells. Mast cells express TLR3 on the cell surface and intracellularly. After stimulation of mast cells with poly(I:C) and Newcas…

Ceramiche e altri rinvenimenti dalle cisterne del Castello di Butera: spunti e riflessioni
2011
The archaeological investigations (1998-1999) conducted in the area in front of the medieval castle of Butera (CL) have returned part of the internal courtyard of the building, equipped with a system of wells and siloi for water supply and granary. The stratigraphic relationships between the structures and the analysis of the material found inside the cisterns, as well as highlighting the different building phases during which the extensive collection system for water and grain was built (12th/13th-15th century ), allow us to have interesting indicators relating to the duration of circulation of the various pottery classes identified
Autoimmune findings resembling connective tissue disease in a patient with Castleman's disease.
1997
Multicentric angiofollicular lymphnode hyperplasia (multicentric Castleman's disease) may be associated with acute phase reaction and several autoimmune features. Since lymphadenopathy is a common feature in connective tissue disease, a clear distinction between the different disease entities may be difficult. We describe a 26-year-old male patient with predominant cervical lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly and polyserositis, diagnosed as collagen disease. He showed several autoimmune features including autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, cryoglobulinaemia, positive antinuclear and anti smooth muscle antibodies, serum immune complexes and a sensorimotor polyneuropathy. Under immunosuppressive …
TL-dating applied to building archaeology: The case of the medieval church Notre-Dame-Sous-Terre (Mont-Saint-Michel, France)
2007
Abstract The recent application of thermoluminescence (TL) dating to young building materials is being increasingly developed for use in the field of buildings archaeology [ Bailif, I.K., Holland, N., 2000. Władze RP na uchodźstwie wobec sytuacji w Polsce w latach 1971–1975
2019
The article presents opinions and assessments o f the Polish authorities in exile (the president and the govemment) on the situation o f Poland in the first half of the 70s. The emigration authorities were absolutely against the inhuman actions during the December 1970 workers’ rebellion. The “Polish” London, lacking in information from the country, wrote about hundreds o f people killed and wounded. They were also pointing to the tragic economic situation o f Poland and the economic exploitation by the USSR. Emigration representatives o f the political elites idealised the attitude o f fellow citizens in Poland. In the opinion o f emigrants, the country remained in resistance to the impose…
