An assembly of organic-inorganic composites using halloysite clay nanotubes
2018
Halloysite is natural tubular clay suitable as a component of biocompatible nanosystems with specific functionalities. The selective modification of halloysite inner/outer surfaces can be achieved by exploiting supramolecular and covalent interactions resulting in controlled colloidal stability adjusted to the solvent polarity. The functionalized halloysite nanotubes can be employed as reinforcing filler for polymers as well as carriers for the sustained release of active molecules, such as antioxidants, flame-retardants, corrosion inhibitors, biocides and drugs. The tubular morphology makes halloysite a perspective template for core-shell metal supports for mesoporous catalysts. The cataly…
Effect of hydrogen on the ethylene polymerization process over Ziegler-Natta catalysts supported on MgCl2(THF)2. II. Kinetic studies
2000
This article reports on a study of the effects of hydrogen on the activity of vanadium and titanium catalysts supported on MgCl 2 (THF) 2 in ethylene polymerization. It was found that hydrogen did not change the stable nature of the active sites and the polydispersity index of the polyethylene obtained. The propagation rate, expressed as k p , was found to be independent of the presence and concentration of hydrogen, indicating that this reacting agent does not modify the reactivity of the active sites. However, the presence of hydrogen in the polymerization medium is responsible for partial deactivation of the active sites just before polymerization is initiated.
A Comparative Study of Poly(Azure A) Film-Modified Disposable Electrodes for Electrocatalytic Oxidation of H₂O₂: Effect of Doping Anion.
2018
In the present paper, poly(azure A) (PAA) films were electrosynthetized in the presence of different doping anions on disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs). The anions used included inorganic monoatomic (chloride and fluoride), inorganic polyatomic (nitrate and sulfate) and organic polyatomic (dodecyl sulfate, DS) species. The coated electrodes thus obtained were characterized by electrochemical techniques and SEM. They showed improved electrocatalytic activities towards hydrogen peroxide oxidation compared to that of a bare SPCE. In particular, the insertion of DS anions inside PAA films provided a special sensitivity to the electrocatalysis of H2O2, which endowed these elect…
The roles for a Lewis base and MgCl2 in third-generation Ziegler-Natta catalysts
1998
Activity of a titanium catalyst supported on a bimetallic magnesium-aluminium system, involving a Lewis base [MgCl2(THF) 2 /Al(C 2 H 5 ) 2 Cl], was studied in ethylene polymerization, and the effect of the catalyst composition on the properties of the final polymer produced was investigated. Analysis and discussion of the findings covering also some part of the kinetic study, resulted in defining the roles for MgCl 2 and a Lewis base in the third-generation Ziegler-Natta catalysts. MgCl 2 forms a bimetallic complex with an organoaluminium compound, which involves also a Lewis base. Its reaction with TiCl 4 yields a very active catalyst wherein the Mg: Ti molar ratio is close to 1. This mean…
Copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐hexene over metallocene catalyst supported on complex of magnesium chloride with tetrahydrofuran
2004
The study of ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization with the zirconocene catalyst, bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride (Cp 2 ZrCl 2 )/methylaluminoxane (MAO), anchored on a MgCl 2 (THF) 2 support was carried out. The influence of 1-hexene concentration in the feed on catalyst productivity and comonomer reactivity as well as other properties was investigated. Additionally, the effect of support modification by the organoaluminum compounds [(MAO, trimethylaluminum (AlMe 3 ), or diethylaluminum chloride (Et 2 AlCl)] on the behavior of the MgCl 2 (THF) 2 /Cp 2 ZrCl/MAO catalyst in the copolymerization process and on the properties of the copolymers was explored. Immobilization of the Cp 2 ZrC…
Electrodeposited nickel–zinc alloy nanostructured electrodes for alkaline electrolyzer
2022
Abstract Over the last decade, as a consequence of the global decarbonization process, the interest towards green hydrogen production has drastically increased. In particular a substantial research effort has focused on the efficient and affordable production of carbon-free hydrogen production processes. In this context, the development of more efficient electrolyzers with low-cost electrode/electrocatalyst materials can play a key role. This work, investigates the fabrication of electrodes of nickel-zinc alloys with nanowires morphology cathode for alkaline electrolyzers. Electrodes are obtained by the simple method of template electrosynthesis that is also inexpensive and easily scalable.…
Electrochemical Abatement of Organic Pollutants in Water by Electro- Fenton with Natural Heterogeneous Catalysts Under Pressure
2020
In recent decades, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) have proved as alternative technologies to conventional processes. Indeed, EAOPs can often allow to treat wastewater containing toxic and POPs. Among them, electro-Fenton (EF) is considered particularly promising for the treatment of recalcitrant organics, since it presents various advantages, including high abatements for many organic pollutants, simplicity of equipment and operations, relatively low cost and low consumption of chemicals. Recently, the utilization of some natural heterogeneous catalysts was proposed in order to avoid some disadvantages of the conventional EF process. In this frame, in this work EF proc…
Agglomerated non-porous silica nanoparticles as model carriers in polyethylene synthesis
2004
Abstract Non-porous submicron silica particles (250 and 500 nm) with high monodispersity were agglomerated to form spherical agglomerates via spray drying. As a binder, 25 nm sized monodisperse silica spheres were selected from a variety of colloidal systems including Levasil-type and Aerosil-type silica nanoparticles. The use of such binders led to an increase of the specific surface area of the agglomerated carriers. All materials were characterised by nitrogen sorption, mercury intrusion and scanning electron microscopy. The silica agglomerates, with highly defined geometrical and pore structural parameters, were employed as model carriers in the heterogeneous polymerization of ethylene …
Study of the synergistic interaction between nickel, gold and molybdenum in novel modified NiO/GDC cermets, possible anode materials for CH4 fueled S…
2013
Abstract The present study concerns the structural and physicochemical characterization of novel Au–Mo–NiO/GDC cermets, alongside with measurements of their carbon tolerance. This is an investigation on whether commercially available NiO/GDC powder that is modified with Au and/or Mo can yield possible electrocatalysts as anodes for CH4 fueled SOFCs. Specifically, the performed preparation methods of deposition-precipitation and deposition-coprecipitation permitted the modification of a commercial electrocatalyst and lead to cermets that exhibit different reaction kinetics for the catalytic dissociation of CH4 and different performance for CH4 steam reforming. The most interesting structural…
CoMo catalysts supported on aluminosilicates: synergy between support and sodium effects
2004
Abstract The structural properties and the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity of sodium doped and sodium free CoMo catalysts supported on amorphous aluminosilicates (ASA) were investigated as a function of different SiO2:Al2O3 ratios. The support yielding the most active catalyst, (66% alumina) doped with different amounts of sodium, was used for a series of similar catalysts in order to study the effect of the alkali ion on the catalytic performance. The supports were prepared by sol–gel method and the catalysts were prepared by incipient wet impregnation method. The structure and the surface of the various samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed reduc…
