Public engagements with Lapland’s Dark Heritage: Community archaeology in Finnish Lapland

Research project Lapland’s Dark Heritage organized a one-week public excavation in Inari, Finnish Lapland, at a Second World War (WWII) German military hospital site in August 2016. #InariDig took place with the help of international experts and pre-registered volunteers. In this field report, two of the archaeologists leading the excavations and an ethnographer who took part in documenting this community archaeology experiment introduce the excavation sites and activities reflecting on the engagements with volunteers and local community. peerReviewed
The Latomiae of Syracuse: A Geotechnical Mapping Through Rock Reflectivity

The archeological site of the Latomia del Paradiso (Syracuse) is endangered by severe instability phenomena due to the shape of walls and underground excava-tion related with the poor mechanical characteristics of the weathered and wet rock. The failure of huge blocks from the ceiling of the underground areas and the detaching of rock "flakes" from the walls surface make the geotechnical zon-ing particularly complex. the zoning is based on the characteristics of the rock wall surface that, in first approximation, can be distinguished in regularized sur-faces because of mining , and in irregular surfaces characterized by fracture prop-agation. Hydrellia albilabris (Meigen) (Diptera: Ephydridae) is recorded in the Nearctic Region for the first time. Its biology and immature stages are documented, and other miners in duckweeds (Araceae: Lemnoideae) are discussed. One new combination is proposed: Hydrellia jinpingensis (Zhang, Yang, and Hayashi) is transferred from Cavatorella.

Bakalaura darba tēma ir “Lielvircavas evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca 20. gadsimta 30. – 60. gados”. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt un aprakstīt Lielvircavas baznīcas un tās draudzes dzīvi dotajā laika posmā, apskatot un analizējot pieejamās publikācijas, arhīva dokumentus un veiktās mutvārdu vēstures intervijas. Bakalaura darba teorētiskā bāze ir Sociālā kapitāla teorija un Sociālā konstrukcionisma teorija. Pētījuma rezultātā tika izzināta 20. gadsimta 30. – 60. gadu vēsture, tika apzināti kā baznīcas un tās draudzes uzplaukuma gadi, tā arī grūtā baznīcas dzīve padomju laikā un baznīcas likvidācija. L’autor de Curial e Güelfa, novel·la de cavalleria humanística escrita a Itàlia pels anys 1445- 1448 en llengua catalana, era coneixedor i estudiós de les Epistolae Familiares de Francesco Petrarca, com ha posat en evidència la crítica literària. Background Inflammation and incomplete thrombus resolution leading to obstructive fibrotic remodelling are considered critical mechanisms for the development of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) after pulmonary embolism (PE). Osteopontin (OPN) is involved in a variety of biological processes including inflammation and tissue fibrosis. Methods OPN plasma concentrations were measured in 70 CTEPH and 119 PE patients. Tissue material from 6 CTEPH patients removed during pulmonary endarterectomy and murine venous thrombi induced by subtotal ligation of the inferior vena cava in C57BL/6 mice were analysed by (immuno)histochemistry.
