Introduction. Ingestion of foreign bodies including dentures, fishbone, screw, and/or surgical devices can be a cause of morbidity, and it rarely could be fatal. Presentation of Case. We present the first hitherto reported case of mussel shell ingestion, which caused acute abdominal pain in a 55-year-old woman. The shell pierced ileal loops, and it was found in the abdominal cavity. Discussion. The accidental or voluntary ingestion of a foreign body is an uncommon event compared to the other causes of bowel perforation. A topodiagnostic investigation on body lateropulsion in medullary infarcts.

Body lateropulsion may occur without signs of vestibular dysfunction and vestibular nucleus involvement. The authors examined 10 such patients with three-dimensional brainstem mapping. Body lateropulsion without limb ataxia reflected an impairment of vestibulospinal postural control caused by a lesion of the descending lateral vestibulospinal tract, whereas body lateropulsion with limb ataxia was probably the consequence of impaired or absent proprioceptive information caused by a lesion of the ascending dorsal spino-cerebellar tract.

PURPOSE. Retropupillary implantation of an iris claw lens offers a rapid and atraumatic approach for rehabilitation of aphakic eyes. The difficulty in the implantation process arises because of the possibility of losing the intraocular lens (IOL) into the vitreous cavity and the need to change the hand holding the forceps during the enclavation. A comparative investigation of differences in new bone formation and cortical remodelling after reamed and unreamed nailing was carried out in a standardized animal model. An oblique osteotomy of the tibia was created in 19 sheep, followed by intramedullary nailing. The medullary cavity was reamed ¶in 10 of the animals, while in 9 sheep unreamed nailing was performed. After an observation period of 10 weeks, microradiographical assessment indicated more intensive bone regeneration and better bridging of the osteotomy in the animals with unreamed nailing. L. Bruns (1914) stated in Krause’s “General Neurosurgery” that brain tumors included all neoplasms growing within the cranial cavity and that these might be divided into three groups: (1) genuine tumors, (2) granulomatous lesions, and (3) parasites. Current use of the term “brain tumor” is more precise and limited to the first of L. Bruns’ categories. Even so, brain tumors represent a large and inhomoge-neous group. The comparison and evaluation of such a diverse set of observations is only possible after making a systematic classification of pertinent data.

Background and Objectives Chylous ascites, an accumulation of milky-white lymph fluid in the peritoneal cavity, is a rare complication following retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy. This study evaluated the appearance and management of chylous ascites following lymphadenectomy for gynecological malignancies. Methods A total of 931 patients who underwent lymphadenectomy for gynecological malignancies at Erlangen University Hospital between 2002 and 2013 were reviewed retrospectively.
