Materiali e metodi. Risultati e conclus…

Halloysite nanotubes as nanoreactors for heterogeneous micellar catalysis

2021

Abstract Hypothesis Electrostatic attractions between the anionic head group of sodium alkylsulphates and the positively charged inner surface of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) drive to the formation of tubular inorganic micelles, which might be employed as nanoreactors for the confinement of non polar compounds in aqueous media. On this basis, sodium alkylsulphates/halloysite hybrids could be efficient nanocatalysts for organic reactions occurring in water. Experiments Sodium decylsulphate (NaDeS) and sodium dodecylsulphate (NaDS) were selected for the functionalization of the halloysite cavity. The composition, the structure and the surface charge properties of the hybrid nanotubes were dete…

Reversed-phase liquid chromatography with mixed micellar mobile phases of Brij-35 and sodium dodecyl sulphate: a method for the analysis of basic com…

2015

Micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) is a reversed-phase liquid chromatographic (RPLC) mode, which uses a surfactant as a modifier, with significant changes in retention and selectivity with regard to the classical RPLC mode that employs mixtures of water and organic solvent. The anionic sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) is the most usual surfactant in MLC, but it also requires the addition of an organic solvent to decrease the retention times and increase the efficiency. In particular, positively charged basic compounds are strongly retained by the stationary phase modified by adsorption of SDS monomers and require the addition of a strong solvent, such as propanol or pentanol. The non-ionic s…

Micelles formed from photochemically active amphiphiles: structural characterization by small-angle neutron scattering

1996

Abstract A novel class of photochemically active amphiphiles has been synthesized containing a ketone moiety as a biradical or radical pair precursor on the hydrophobic tail of sodium sulfate surfactants. Alteration of the molecular structure of each ketone-containing surfactant allows for the systematic and predictable manipulation of the micellar size and shape, both of which are important in determining the coupling between the unpaired electrons confined within the micelle and the intraradical dynamics. The structure of the resulting aggregates has been analyzed by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The results show that the amphiphiles form ellipsoidal micelles with aggregation num…

Mononuclear rearrangement of heterocycles in zwitterionic micelles of amine oxide surfactants.

2012

Abstract Rate constants for the mononuclear rearrangement (MRH) of Z -phenylhydrazones of some 5-substituted-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles in water have been measured in the presence of zwitterionic micelles. The use of micellized N -tetradecyl- N , N -dimethylamineoxide (C 14 DMAO) as the reaction medium allowed to solubilize the otherwise water-insoluble oxadiazoles. Micellar rate effects were analyzed by using a simple pseudo-phase model and compared with those obtained in non-ionic micelles (Triton X-100). Evidence that both the rate of the rearrangement reaction and the binding of the substrates to the micelles are mainly governed by substrate hydrophobicity is obtained. The disagreement…

Retention-structure relationship studies for some steroidal hormones in micellar liquid chromatography

2000

The retention behavior in a C18 column of fourteen steroidal hormones (clostebol acetate, dehydrotestosterone, dydrogesterone, medroxyprogesterone, medroxyprogesterone acetate, methandienone, methyltestosterone, nandrolone, nandrolone decanoate, progesterone, testosterone, testosterone enanthate, testosterone propionate and, stanozolol) with pure micellar mobile phases prepared from sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and hybrid mobile phases comprising SDS-acetonitrile and SDS-pentanol, was correlated with their octanol-water partition coefficients. Similar correlations were found with retention data obtained by other authors in gas chromatography, conventional reversed-phase liquid chromatograp…

DETERMINATION OF STEROIDAL HORMONES IN URINE SAMPLES BY MICELLAR LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY FOLLOWING SOLID-PHASE EXTRACTION

2001

Steroidal hormones were determined in spiked urine samples using micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS)-pentanol, solid-phase extraction (SPE), and detection in the UV region. In the optimized procedure, a 10 mL aliquot of urine sample is loaded into a C18 cartridge and washed with 2 mL of 50:50 (v/v) methanol-water, followed by 200 μL of 70:30 (v/v) methanol-water. The retained steroids are eluted with 2 mL of methanol and the eluate evaporated to dryness under nitrogen at 50°C. The residue is redissolved with 200 μL of the micellar mobile phase used in the chromatographic separation and injected into the chromatograph. The performance of the procedure was checked for 13 s…
