Sublethal streptomycin concentrations and lytic bacteriophage together promote resistance evolution.
2017
Sub-minimum inhibiting concentrations (sub-MICs) of antibiotics frequently occur in natural environments owing to wide-spread antibiotic leakage by human action. Even though the concentrations are very low, these sub-MICs have recently been shown to alter bacterial populations by selecting for antibiotic resistance and increasing the rate of adaptive evolution. However, studies are lacking on how these effects reverberate into key ecological interactions, such as bacteria-phage interactions. Previously, co-selection of bacteria by phages and antibiotic concentrations exceeding MICs has been hypothesized to decrease the rate of resistance evolution because of fitness costs associated with re…
Heterophyid trematodes (Digenea) from penguins: A new species of Ascocotyle Looss, 1899, first description of metacercaria of Ascocotyle (A.) patagon…
2019
Two species of heterophyid trematodes were found in the Magellanic penguin, Spheniscus magellanicus (Forster), from Patagonia, Argentina. Ascocotyle (Ascocotyle) patagoniensis Hernández-Orts et al. (2012) is re-described based on new, properly fixed specimens (original material from South American sea lion, Otaria flavescens Shaw, was from frozen hosts). Metacercariae of this species are reported and described for the first time from the heart of the silversides, Odontesthes argentinensis (Valenciennes) and O. smitti (Lahille), from Patagonia. Ascocotyle (Phagicola) cameliae n. sp. is described from the intestine of S. magellanicus. The new species is placed into the subgenus Phagicola Faus…
Fluorescent pseudomonads harboring type III secretion genes are enriched in the mycorrhizosphere of Medicago truncatula
2011
Type III secretion systems (T3SSs) of Gram-negative bacteria mediate direct interactions with eukaryotic cells. Pseudomonas spp. harboring T3SS genes (T3SS+) were previously shown to be more abundant in the rhizosphere than in bulk soil. To discriminate the contribution of roots and associated arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the enrichment of T3SS+ fluorescent pseudomonads in the rhizosphere of Medicago truncatula, their frequency was assessed among pseudomonads isolated from mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal roots and from bulk soil. T3SS genes were identified by PCR targeting a conserved hrcRST DNA fragment. Polymorphism of hrcRST in T3SS+ isolates was assessed by PCR-restriction fragm…
Les deux faces – objective/subjective – de la mobilité sociale
2006
06062; National audience; How does objective social mobility, traditionally measured with tables of mobility drawn up by sociologists, relate to feelings about mobility, i.e., how individuals perceive, explain and appraise their social trajectory? Using a question from a survey (Insee's Formation, qualification professionnelle), subjective mobility was statistically evaluated so as to bring the two approaches to mobility together and measure the (considerable) frequency of deviations. Subjective mobility was then analyzed qualitatively on the basis of interviews conducted with respondents in the same survey. This helps us account for deviations and identify the bundle of parameters that peo…
1.Jātnieku pulks un Latvijas Armijas zirgu sporta klubs 1919.-1940.g.
2016
Fitness in soil and rhizosphere of Pseudomonas fluorescens C7R12 compared with a C7R12 mutant affected in pyoverdine synthesis and uptake.
2000
International audience; Fluorescent pseudomonads have evolved an efficient strategy of iron uptake based on the synthesis of the siderophore pyoverdine and its relevant outer membrane receptor. The possible implication of pyoverdine synthesis and uptake on the ecological competence of a model strain (Pseudomonas fluorescens C7R12) in soil habitats was evaluated using a pyoverdine minus mutant (PL1) obtained by random insertion of the transposon Tn5. The Tn5 flanking DNA was amplified by inverse PCR and sequenced. The nucleotide sequence was found to show a high level of identity with pvsB, a pyoverdine synthetase. As expected, the mutant PL1 was significantly more susceptible to iron starva…
Descripción de un nuevo limácido de Menorca (Islas Baleares): Gigantomilax (Vitrinoides) benjaminus sp. n. (Gastropoda, Pulmonata)
2008
We describe a new endemic limacid slug, Gigantomilax (Vitrinoides) benjaminus n. sp. and we compare it with the nearest species, particularly with Gigantomilax (V.) majoricensis, another Balearic endemism. Characteristic features of this new species include its small size, translucid and smooth body, and totally grey dorsum with no bands or spots. The reproductive system shows a well developed vas deferens surrounded by the distal part of prostatic gland, a thin penial retractor muscle, swollen prostate and small distal genitalia. The recent redescription of Limax majoricensis by Wiktor et al. (2007) is discussed and we consider that these authors refer to G. benjaminus n. sp., and so we de…
El Derecho visto por Berlanga | The Law seen by Berlanga
2019
Abstract: The cinema of Luis García Berlanga talks of Law, of which he offers a comical and critical vision at the same time. The death penalty, the vindication of freedom, censorship of authority, sexism and corruption are the Berlanguan legal topics.
Las obras musicales en las radios universitarias
2018
The Spanish General Audiovisual Communication Law does not relate to Campus Radio Stations. In this context, Copyright Collection Societies do not cover them in their catalogues of general fees. For this reason, the holders of these radios are forced to negotiate them. Althoug the Intellectual Property Law and the Order ECD/2574/2015, of 2 December, contain obligations for Copyright Collection Societies, on this matter its enforcement are far from being achieved
