Efficiency of H center stabilization in alkali halide crystals at low-temperature uniaxial deformation
2020
The efficiency of stabilization of H centers as well as its dependence on the degree of uniaxial deformation are considered within the framework of the modified geometric model of alkali halides. It is shown that stabilization of H centers is difficult in KI and RbI crystals, while in other NaCl-type crystals it becomes quite probable. Under uniaxial deformation, the interstitial space, in which the defect will be located, decreases, and the efficiency decrease. In the case of cesium halides, the orientation of the H centers takes place predominantly in the direction; therefore, the criteria for their stabilization differ from the NaCl-type alkali halide crystals. According to calculations,…
An Energy Saving Mechanism Based on Vacation Queuing Theory in Data Center Networks
2018
To satisfy the growing need for computing resources, data centers consume a huge amount of power which raises serious concerns regarding the scale of the energy consumption and wastage. One of the important reasons for such energy wastage relates to the redundancies. Redundancies are defined as the backup routing paths and unneeded active ports implemented for the sake of load balancing and fault tolerance. The energy loss may also be caused by the random nature of incoming packets forcing nodes to stay powered on all the times to await for incoming tasks. This paper proposes a re-architecturing of network devices to address energy wastage issue by consolidating the traffic arriving from di…
The history and future challenges associated with the hydrogenation of vinyl fluorides
2018
Abstract Catalytic hydrogenation is one of the most powerful transformations available in synthetic chemistry; there have been three Nobel Laureates rewarded for their work in the field. Despite the advances in substrate scope and the development of enantioselective versions of this transformation, vinyl fluorides remain somewhat underrepresented. Successful hydrogenation of vinyl fluorides can give rise to a fluorine-containing stereocenter, an important feature which has great potential in many areas of chemistry. This review aims to explore the history of vinyl fluorides as substrates in hydrogenation reactions, and to highlight modern day challenges and unresolved issues regarding this …
Proline-Modified Porphyrin Catalysts for Enantioselective Epoxidations: Design, Synthesis, and Reactivity
2004
International audience; The syntheses of various strapped and −picket-fence× chiral porphyrins are described, and their reactivities towards the enantioselective epoxidation of alkenes are reported. Four L-proline residues provide the chiralityfor the various meso-substituted catalysts, which differ by either the spatial arrangement of the stereogenic centers or the nature and length of the straps. The resulting bridged structures possess four amide linkages ineach strap, leading to highly rigid molecules with well-defined geometries whereas the strapped Fe catalysts gave rise to only moderate enantioselectivities, the C2-symmetrical ones being superior to the D2-symmetrical compounds. The …

Asymmetric Synthesis of Spiro β-Lactamsviaa Squaramide- Catalyzed Sulfa-Michael Addition/Desymmetrization Protocol
2016
An efficient asymmetric synthesis of spirocyclohexenone β-lactams bearing three contiguous stereocenters has been achieved in moderate to good yields and high stereoselectivities. The protocol involves the combination of a squaramide-catalyzed sulfa-Michael addition under desymmetrization via a dynamic kinetic resolution of racemic 2,5-cyclohexadienones.
Squaramide-Catalyzed Asymmetric aza-Friedel-Crafts/N,O-Acetalization Domino Reactions Between 2-Naphthols and Pyrazolinone Ketimines
2017
N-Boc ketimines derived from pyrazolin-5-ones were explored to develop an unprecedented domino aza-Friedel-Crafts/N,O-acetalization reaction with 2-naphthols. The novel method requires a catalyst loading of only 0.5 mol % of a bifunctional squaramide catalyst, is scalable to gram amounts, and provides a new series of furanonaphthopyrazolidinone derivatives bearing two vicinal tetra-substituted stereogenic centers in excellent yields (95-98 %) and stereoselectivity (>99:1 d.r. and 97-98 % ee). A different reactivity was observed in the case of 1-naphthols and other electron-rich phenols, which led to the aza-Friedel-Crafts adducts in 70-98 % yield and 47-98 % ee.
Enantioselective synthesis of chiral oxazolines from unactivated ketones and isocyanoacetate esters by synergistic silver/organocatalysis
2018
[EN] A multicatalytic approach that combines a bifunctional Brønsted base¿squaramide organocatalyst and Ag+ as Lewis acid has been applied in the reaction of unactivated ketones with tert-butyl isocyanoacetate to give chiral oxazolines bearing a quaternary stereocenter. The formal [3+2] cycloaddition provided high yields of the corresponding cis-oxazolines with good diastereoselectivity and excellent enantioselectivity, being applied to aryl¿alkyl and alkyl¿alkyl ketones.
Amino‐Substituted Ferra‐bis(tricarbollides) − Metallatricarbaboranes Designed for Linear Molecular Constructions
2004
Reactions between high purity FeCl2 and the anion [nido-7-(tBuHN)-7,8,9-C3B8H10)]− (1−) have been used for efficient syntheses of the twelve-vertex double-cluster metallatricarbollide complexes of the para, para (p,p) type [closo-9,9′(RHN)2-commo-2,2′-FeII-1,7,9-(C3B8H10)-1′,7′,9′-(C3B8H10)] (2) (2a, R = tBu and 2b, R = H) (yields 42−45% for 2a). Compound 2b, which contains two reactive amino substituents conveniently attached to the tricarbollide subclusters in p-positions with respect to the metal center, was prepared via facile cleavage of the tBu substituent in 2a either by AlCl3 or by thermal means. The structure of 2b constitutes a good setting for the synthesis of building blocks for …
