Organocatalytic Enantioselective Alkylation of Pyrazol-3-ones with Isatin-Derived Ketimines: Stereocontrolled Construction of Vicinal Tetrasubstitute…

2016

A quinine-derived thiourea catalysed the enantioselective addition of 4-substituted pyrazolones to isatin-derived ketimines, providing a variety of aminooxindole-pyrazolone adducts containing congested vicinal tetrasubstituted stereocentres with excellent outcomes (up to 98% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee).

Recommendations for neonatologists and pediatricians working in first level birthing centers on the first communication of genetic disease and malfor…

2021

Abstract Background Genetic diseases are chronic conditions with relevant impact on the lives of patients and their families. In USA and Europe it is estimated a prevalence of 60 million affected subjects, 75% of whom are in developmental age. A significant number of newborns are admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) for reasons different from prematurity, although the prevalence of those with genetic diseases is unknown. It is, then, common for the neonatologist to start a diagnostic process on suspicion of a genetic disease or malformation syndrome, or to make and communicate these diagnoses. Many surveys showed that the degree of parental satisfaction with the methods of c…

Structural inhomogeneity of Ge-doped amorphous SiO2 probed by photoluminescence lifetime measurements under synchrotron radiation.

2007

We report a study of the photoluminescence (PL) time decay of the B-type center, characterized by an optical absorption band peaked at similar to 5.2 eV and two related PL bands peaked at similar to 3.2 eV and similar to 4.3 eV, in sol-gel Ge-doped a- SiO2 under excitation by synchrotron radiation. Measurements were carried out by excitation in UV and in vacuum-UV (VUV), and were performed in the temperature range from 8 K up to 300 K in order to isolate the effects of the intersystem-crossing process, proposed to link the two emission bands of the center. Repeating the time decay measurement at several emission energies falling inside the 4.3 eV band, we have observed a variation of the PL…

Myoglobin embedded in saccharide amorphous matrices: water-dependent domains evidenced by small angle X-ray scattering

2010

We report Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) measurements performed on samples of carboxy-myoglobin (MbCO) embedded in low-water trehalose glasses. Results showed that, in such samples, "low-protein" trehalose-water domains are present, surrounded by a protein-trehalose-water background; such finding is supported by Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements. These domains, which do not appear in the absence of the protein and in analogous sucrose systems, preferentially incorporate the incoming water at the onset of rehydration, and disappear following large hydration. This observation suggests that, in organisms under anhydrobiosis, analogous domains could play a buffering role against th…

Il progetto I-Access. Patrimonio culturale e accessibilità

2021

The volume is one of 3 (see notes) containing the results of the I-Access project: implementing accessibility in urban historic center's use and knowledge (Interreg V-A Italy-Malta, axis I, notice 1/16), of which R.P. is the project leader. Each section - accessibility, digital innovation, interventions, community - has always been referred, by scientific coordination, to cultural heritage. in the Appendices the fact sheets and verification of accessibility and the projects for overcoming the architectural barriers carried out, relating to the two churches of S. Maria la Nova and S. Maria in Valverde, are represented. for all activities, please refer to the site www.i-access.eu

Modéliser la suburbanisation

2002

Health promotion profile of youth sports clubs in Finland: club officials' and coaches' perceptions.

2009

SUMMARY The purpose of this article is to examine the current health promotion orientation of youth sports clubs in Finland in view of the standards created previously for the health promoting sports club (HPSC). Ninety-seven youth sports clubs participated, and 273 sports club officials and 240 coaches answered the questionnaires. To describe clubs health promotion orientations, an HPSC index was created. The HPSC index was formulated on sub-indices by factor analysis. The sub-indices were: policy, ideology, practice and environment indexes. The results indicate that youth sports clubs are fairly health promoting in general. On average, the clubs fulfilled 12 standards for HPSC out of 22. …

A New Analysis of the Three-Body Problem

2022

In the recent papers [5, 18], respectively, the existence of motions where the perihelions afford periodic oscillations about certain equilibria and the onset of a topological horseshoe have been proved. Such results have been obtained using, as neighbouring integrable system, the so-called two-centre (or Euler) problem and a suitable canonical setting proposed in [16, 17]. Here we review such results.

Scientific abstracts and plain language summaries in psychology: A comparison based on readability indices.

2020

Findings from psychological research are usually difficult to interpret for non-experts. Yet, non-experts resort to psychological findings to inform their decisions (e.g., whether to seek a psychotherapeutic treatment or not). Thus, the communication of psychological research to non-expert audiences has received increasing attention over the last years. Plain language summaries (PLS) are abstracts of peer-reviewed journal articles that aim to explain the rationale, methods, findings, and interpretation of a scientific study to non-expert audiences using non-technical language. Unlike media articles or other forms of accessible research summaries, PLS are usually written by the authors of th…
