In 1620, was named chief pilot of the Casa de Contratación de Sevilla Diego Ramírez de Arellano, author of a manuscript entitled Reconocimiento de los estrechos de Magallanes y San Vicente, con algunas cosas curiosas de navegación. He had participated in the reconnaissance mission referred by the title of the manuscript, and in that book developed same methods and tools for a nautical understood scientifically, and even used a methodology close to modern science, as in refuting the theory about Figueiredo of the linear relationship between longitude and magnetic variation of the needle navigation. [Resumen] Existe una larga tradición en catalán de glosas explicativas a palabras consideradas obscuras o anticuadas en textos literarios antiguos. Esta tradición se remonta al siglo XVI, con la publicación de la obra de Ausiàs March, a causa del cambio de modelo de lengua literaria que se produce con el Renacimiento. Esta clase de glosas continúan durante los siglos XVII, XVIII y XIX, con una finalidad sobre todo actualizadora, para facilitar la lectura de los textos antiguos al lector moderno. "L'enseignement du français à Palerme au XIXe siècle" est le résultat d'un long dépouillement de documents d'archives et de textes présents dans les bibliothèques palermitaines. Il prend en considération les différents paramètres de l'acte éducatif : statut du français, écoles, professeurs, élèves, programmes, manuels et méthodologies. Cette recherche embrasse une longue période: de 1800 à 1900. Cela permet de nous rendre compte des modifications résultant du changement de dynastie dans les écoles publiques et privées palermitaines.

The article focuses on masculine consumption patterns and the production and dyeing of textiles in rural Finland in the early nineteenth century. It maintains that the rural consumption of textiles as well as individual choices and tastes evolved, and our selected examples of males’ wardrobes demonstrate that contemporary styles were followed. The article targets an era that can be regarded as a watershed: this was a time when mass production was in its infancy and craft production and self-sufficiency were still relevant to household economies.
