The Anthropocene and its problems unveil and exacerbate some vulnerabilities of democratic theory and practice, particular in its liberal version. Both liberal democracies’ failures and their most promising attempts at managing these problems expose them to powerful legitimacy challenges. The Anthropocene is thus for liberal democracies what Scylla and Carybdis were for Ulysses and his crew: a predicament whereby whichever direction is chosen will lead to serious difficulties and risks, and possibly to significant damages and losses.

Much progress has been made in the past few decades in understanding the sources, transport, fate, and biological effects of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in aquatic ecosystems. Despite these advancements, significant obstacles still prevent comprehensive assessments of the environmental risks associated with the presence of CECs. Many of these obstacles center around the extrapolation of effects of single chemicals observed in the laboratory or effects found in individual organisms or species in the field to impacts of multiple stressors on aquatic food webs. An improvement of the batch-authentication and key agreement framework for P2P-based online social networks

Batch authentication is the way to authenticate multiple users simultaneously to provide better efficiency. In [1], three batch authentication protocols are proposed based on different primitives, to provide simultaneous authentication of multiple users in online social networks (OSNs). In this paper, we briefly introduce the original protocols, describe their security vulnerabilities and related attacks, and propose modifications to make them secure again.

We introduce a new problem domain for activity recognition: the analysis of children's social and communicative behaviors based on video and audio data. We specifically target interactions between children aged 1-2 years and an adult. Such interactions arise naturally in the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders such as autism. We introduce a new publicly-available dataset containing over 160 sessions of a 3-5 minute child-adult interaction. In each session, the adult examiner followed a semi-structured play interaction protocol which was designed to elicit a broad range of social behaviors. In 2015, the world saw 244 million international migrants. Migration has been shown to be both a protective and a risk factor for mental health, depending on circumstances. Furthermore, culture has an impact on perceptions and constructions of mental illness and identity, both of which can be challenged through migration. Using a qualitative research approach, we analysed five internationally acclaimed and influential novels and one theatre play that focus on aspects of identity, migration, and threatened mental health. Immune checkpoint inhibitors-associated pericardial disease: a systematic review of case reports

Treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can be complicated by cardiovascular toxicity, including pericardial disease. To date, no prospective studies specifically investigated the optimal treatment of ICI-associated pericardial disease, and the available evidence is based on case reports and series only. We performed a systematic review of case reports and series including 20 publications for a total of 28 cases of ICI-associated pericardial disease. In this review, pericardial disease was reversible in the majority of cases (75%), although 2 deaths were reported.
