Synthesis and characterization of NdNiO3 prepared by low temperature methods

1992

Abstract NdNiO3 has been prepared with an orthorhombic perovskite structure by a low temperature and low oxygen pressure method starting from a nickel(III) oxide precursor, β-NiO(OH). The compound LaNiO3 has also been obtained by this method. This chemical-precursor-based synthesis overcomes problems related to the use of high oxygen pressures in the synthesis.

Characterization and Reprocessing of Greenhouse Films.

2001

Films for greenhouses are an attractive source of post-consumer plastic materials because they are mainly made of polyethylene and can be easily collected in large amounts in small zones. The types of polymers for this application are, however, increasing and the films contain not only additives and stabilisers, but also fertiliser and pesticide residues. Finally, the extent of photooxidative degradation undergone during the use can strongly influence the recycling operations and the final properties of the secondary material. In this work, a complete characterisation of post-consumer films for greenhouses has been carried out and the properties of the recycled material have been correlated…

X-ray investigation of combined main-chain/side-chain liquid-crystalline polymers

1990

Abstract Structural investigations on six combined liquid-crystalline polymers using the X-ray technique are described. The measurements have allowed a characterization of the liquid-crystalline phases and have led to our first ideas about the phase structures. All mesogenic groups are arranged parallel to each other, the shortest segment in the main-chain or in the side-chain determines the smectic layer spacing. A modified designation for liquid-crystalline phases of high polymers is proposed.

Mechanical Characterization of Polysaccharide/polyaminoacid Hydrogels as Potential Scaffolds for Tissue Regeneration

2011

The mechanical properties of hydrogel scaffolds based on hyaluronic acid (HA) that were chemically crosslinked with α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)(2-aminoethylcarbamate)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA-EDA) were investigated. Variation of these properties as a function of three different PHEA-EDA amounts used to crosslink HA has been related to the reaction efficiency evaluated using a colorimetric assay. Moreover, the amount of unreacted amino groups that was still present in the hydrogels was related to the attachment behavior of human dermal fibroblasts to the hydrogel surface. The mechanical data and biological results suggest the suitability of the investigated hydrogels as scaffolds for the regener…

Characterization of a fiber reinforced semirigid liquid crystalline polymer

1997

In this work, samples of a semirigid Liquid crystalline polymer reinforced with carbon and glass fibers has been characterized. Semirigid liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) show some advantages with respect to rigid LCPs: in particular lower processing temperatures, and better compatibility with flexible thermoplastics, but also some disadvantages: lower mechanical properties and poor thermomechanical resistance. Both properties can be improved by adding inorganic fillers. Although elastic modulus and tensile strength of the glass fiber filled LCP improve remarkably with increasing the filler content, the same properties for the carbon fiber-filled samples do not increase with increasing ti…

Morphology, rheology, and mechanical properties of a new nanobiocomposite

2015

Nanobiocomposites are a new class of biodegradable polymer materials with an ultrafine phase dispersion of the order of a few nanometers in a biodegradable polymer matrix that shows very interesting properties often very different from those of conventional filled polymers. In this work the morphology and the rheological and mechanical properties of a new nanobiocomposite made of a biodegradable copolyester based blend with an organomodified montmorillonite have been investigated to evaluate its possible use in several applications. SAXS diffractograms and TEM micrographs show that the in both the adopted processing conditions an hybrid intercalated/exfoliated morphology is observed. Rheolo…

Novel benzofulvenes-based polymers: Characterization and employment in flexible electrochromic devices

2014

Benzofulvenes-based monomers have been synthesized for the first time and have been polymerized by means of electrochemical methods onto different electrodic materials. Morphological investigation has been performed by using SEM; electrical and optical properties have been studied by means of both cyclic voltammetry, optical absorption and spectroelectrochemical techniques. Finally, solid state electrochromic devices have been fabricated. They have displayed high optical contrast.
