Transverse momentum dependence of $J/\psi$ and $\psi^{\prime}$ yields in $|y|$ < 0.35, and ${\psi^{\prime}}/{J/\psi}$ ratio together with ratios obtained in other experiments. Uncertainties are point-to-point uncorrelated (uncorr.) (statistical and uncorrelated systematic uncertainties) and correlated systematic (corr.) uncertainties. The global uncertainty is 10%.

The word dweorg with the meaning ‘dwarf’ was certainly available in Anglo-Saxon England, as attested to by the earliest glossaries, such as those of Épinal and Erfurt, where it is used to render the Latin nanus and pumilio. OE dweorg also occurs in a group of five charms and medical recipes, where it seems to designate an ailment, characterized by a strong and sudden onset of fever. Particularly, in the remedies contained in the Medicina de quadrupedibus and in the Peri didaxeon – both translations of Latin medical treatises – OE dweorg means ‘fever’. Centrality dependence of high-pT D meson suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

The nuclear modification factor, RAA, of the prompt charmed mesons D0 , D+ and D∗+, and their antiparticles, was measured with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy √ sNN = 2.76 TeV in two transverse momentum intervals, 5 < pT < 8 GeV/c and 8 < pT < 16 GeV/c, and in six collision centrality classes. The RAA shows a maximum suppression of a factor of 5–6 in the 10% most central collisions. The suppression and its centrality dependence are compatible within uncertainties with those of charged pions. A comparison with the RAA of non-prompt J/ψ from B meson decays, measured by the CMS Collaboration, hints at a larger suppression of D mesons in the most central collis…
Precision Measurement of the Mass and Lifetime of the Xi(-)(b) Baryon

We report on measurements of the mass and lifetime of the Ξ[- over b] baryon using about 1800 Ξ[- over b] decays reconstructed in a proton-proton collision data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb[superscript -1] collected by the LHCb experiment. The decays are reconstructed in the Ξ[- over b] → Ξ[0 over c]π[superscript -], Ξ[0 over c] → pK[superscript -]K[superscript -]π[superscript +] channel and the mass and lifetime are measured using the Λ[0 over b] → Λ[+ over c]π[superscript -] mode as a reference. We measure M(Ξ[- over b] - M(Λ[0 over b]) = 178.36 ± 0.46 ± 0.16 MeV/c[superscript 2], (τ[subscript Ξ[- over b]/τ[subscript Λ[0 over b]) = 1.089 ± 0.026 ± 0.011, where…
The charm-quark contribution to light-by-light scattering in the muon (−2) from lattice QCD

We compute the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon $g-2$ from the charm quark using lattice QCD. The calculation is performed on ensembles generated with dynamical $(u,d,s)$ quarks at the SU(3)$_{\rm f}$ symmetric point with degenerate pion and kaon masses of around 415 MeV. It includes the connected charm contribution, as well as the leading disconnected Wick contraction, involving the correlation between a charm and a light-quark loop. Cutoff effects turn out to be sizeable, which leads us to use lighter-than-physical charm masses, to employ a broad range of lattice spacings reaching down to 0.039 fm and to perform a combined charm-mass and continuum extrapolation.…

Cleckley’s concept of psychopathy includes characteristics such as superficial charm, unreliability, and affective poverty. In this study, the Psychopathy Checklist (PCL) and personality questionnaires (MMPI, CPI, EPQ, and SSS) were used to assess 92 non-violent male offenders. The variable-based approach was applied in order to study the structure of the PCL and the relationships between the PCL, the PCL factors and the personality questionnaire scores. The results indicated that the personality scale scores failed to correlate positively with the PCL score, with the exception of the MMPI hypomania score. Centrality dependence of ψ(2S) suppression in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

The inclusive production of the ψ(2S) charmonium state was studied as a function of centrality in p-Pb collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center of mass energy √ sNN = 5.02 TeV at the CERN LHC. The measurement was performed with the ALICE detector in the center of mass rapidity ranges −4.46 < ycms < −2.96 and 2.03 < ycms < 3.53, down to zero transverse momentum, by reconstructing the ψ(2S) decay to a muon pair. The ψ(2S) production cross section σψ(2S) is presented as a function of the collision centrality, which is estimated through the energy deposited in forward rapidity calorimeters. Search for the Decay of the Higgs Boson to Charm Quarks with the ATLAS Experiment

A direct search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of charm quarks is presented. Associated production of the Higgs and Z bosons, in the decay mode ZH→ℓ+ℓ−c¯c is studied. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s=13TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is used. The H→c¯c signature is identified using charm-tagging algorithms. The observed (expected) upper limit on σ(pp→ZH)×B(H→c¯c) is 2.7 (3.9+2.1−1.1) pb at the 95% confidence level for a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, while the standard model value is 26 fb.
