Novel Fault-Tolerant Routing Technique for ZMesh Topology based Network-on-Chip Design

This paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant routing technique for ZMesh topology based Network-on-Chip (NoC) design. The proposed algorithm caters the link faults and routes the data packets seamlessly to the destination. This algorithm has been compared with the existing techniques proposed for mesh topology counterparts. The experimentations have been carried out by increasing ZMesh network size and percentage of link faults. The results show that in the event of link failures the proposed algorithm routes the data from source to destination flawlessly.

On the effectiveness of Finite Element simulation of orthogonal cutting with particular reference to temperature prediction

Abstract Finite Element simulation of orthogonal cutting is nowadays assuming a large relevance; in fact a very large number of papers may be found out in technical literature on this topic. In recent years, numerical simulation was performed to investigate various phenomena such as chip segmentation, force prediction and tool wear. On the other hand, some drawbacks have to be highlighted; due to the geometrical and computational complexity of the updated-Lagrangian formulation mostly used in FE codes, a cutting time of only a few milliseconds can be effectively simulated. Influence of process parameters on the product integrity in friction stir extrusion of magnesium alloys

Friction Stir Extrusion is an innovative direct-recycling technology for metal machining chips. During the process a specifically designed rotating tool is plunged into a cylindrical matrix containing the scraps to be recycled. The stirring action of the tool prompts solid bonding related phenomena allowing the back extrusion of a full dense rod. This process results to be particularly relevant because allows the reuse of the scrap without any previous treatment. Experiments have been carried out in order to investigate the influence of the process parameters on the extrudes quality and a numerical model has been developed in order to simulate the evolution of the material flow.

Label swapper device for spectral amplitude coded optical packet networks monolithically integrated on InP

In this paper the design, fabrication and experimental characterization of an spectral amplitude coded (SAC) optical label swapper monolithically integrated on Indium Phosphide (InP) is presented. The device has a footprint of 4.8x1.5 mm 2 and is able to perform label swapping operations required in SAC at a speed of 155 Mbps. The device was manufactured in InP using a multiple purpose generic integration scheme. Compared to previous SAC label swapper demonstrations, using discrete component assembly, this label swapper chip operates two order of magnitudes faster. © 2011 Optical Society of America.

AbstractDNA origami nanostructures have tremendous potential to serve as versatile platforms in self-assembly -based nanofabrication and in highly parallel nanoscale patterning. Configurable low-cost plotter device for fabrication of multi-color sub-cellular scale microarrays.

We report on the construction and operation of a low-cost plotter for fabrication of microarrays for multiplexed single-cell analyses. The printing head consists of polymeric pyramidal pens mounted on a rotation stage installed on an aluminium frame. This construction enables printing of microarrays onto glass substrates mounted on a tilt stage, controlled by a Lab-View operated user interface. The plotter can be assembled by typical academic workshops from components of less than 15 000 Euro. The functionality of the instrument is demonstrated by printing DNA microarrays on the area of 0.5 squared centimeters using up to three different oligonucleotides. Design and fabrication of an acoustic micromixer for biological media activation

International audience; The bioassay of infinitesimal quantities of protein markers in biological samples is the way to early cancer detection. However, this detection can be limited by the diffusion of these macromolecules (analytes) from the bulk to the sensor chip (surface of ligands). Here, we propose a new method to overcome this drawback by the activation of the biological media during the detection step. AbstractThe semi-enclosed Red Sea harbours one of the longest coral-reef ecosystems on the planet. The ≈ 850 km section of the western shore, comprising the coastline of the Red Sea State of the Republic of Sudan, has however been sparsely studied. Sudan’s coral reef fishery provides livelihoods to fishers and business opportunities by means of local and regional trade, however, the knowledge level of the state of the natural resources and the impacts of fisheries are poorly known.
