Distribution of sulfur and chlorine over Europe

Maps showing the mean concentration of sulfar and chlorine in air and precipitation over north western Europe in summer and winter have been constructed. Exess SO4—S has been computed on the basis of the assumption that chloride is a conservative property of sea spray particles and that there are no other sources for chloride than sea spray. Tin compounds interaction with membranes of egg lecithin liposomes.

This work is a continuation of earlier research concerning the influence of tin compounds on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes produced with lecithin hen egg yolks (EYL). The experiments were carried out at room temperature (about 25 ∞C). Four tin compounds were chosen, including three organic ones, (CH3)4Sn, (C2H5)4Sn and (C3H7)3SnCl, and one inorganic, SnCl2. The investigated compounds were admixed to water dispersions of liposomes. The content of the admixture changed within the range 0 mol-% to 11mol-% in proportion to EYL. Efficient, non-toxic anion transport by synthetic carriers in cells and epithelia.

Transmembrane anion transporters (anionophores) have potential for new modes of biological activity, including therapeutic applications. In particular they might replace the activity of defective anion channels in conditions such as cystic fibrosis. However, data on the biological effects of anionophores are scarce, and it remains uncertain whether such molecules are fundamentally toxic. Here, we report a biological study of an extensive series of powerful anion carriers. Chlorinated dioxins and dibenzothiophenes in fly ash samples from combustion of peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuels and liquid packaging boards

Abstract Peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuel and liquid packaging board in different combinations were burned at a temperature of at least 850 °C. Fly ash samples from these combustions were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDBTs) by high resolution GC/MS. The concentrations of tri- and tetrachlorodibenzothiophenes and tri-, tetra- and pentachlorodioxins were highest when mixtures of wood chips and refuse derived fuel (RDF) were burned. Abstract The gas chromatographic retention behaviour of methylethyl, 1-methylpropyl, 2-methylpropyl, 1,2-dimethylpropyl, 1-methylbutyl and 3-methylbutyl esters of benzoic and o-, m- and p-chlorobenzoic acids on low-polarity (SE-30) and polar (OV-351) capillary columns under several temperature-programmed and isothermal conditions is reported. The retention data and the Kovats retention indices for all 24 components are given and the separation of a complex mixture is discussed. The retention index increments have been used to examine the effects of chain branching and chlorine substitution. The results are compared with those for n-alkyl benzoates and monochlorobenzoates.

Pd-catalyzed hydrodehalogenation of chlorinated olefins: Theoretical insights to the reaction mechanism

Abstract Density functional theory calculations are applied to study energetics of trichloroethene (TCE) hydrodechlorination over pure Pd(1 1 1), chlorine-covered Pd(1 1 1), and Pd island supported by Au(1 1 1). Our results show that in all cases C Cl bond breakings take place more readily than C H bond formations and that TCE dechlorinates fully producing CCH precursors for the hydrogenations. The reaction pathway through radical-like species provides a possible explanation to the experimental product distributions that show a nominal amount of lesser chlorinated species in the presence of excess hydrogen.
