CCL3 and CCL4, the Major Chemokines Produced by CD38+ Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Cells, Facilitate Microenvironmental Interactions of Neoplastic Ce…

2008

Abstract CD38, a negative prognostic marker for patients with CLL, has been demonstrated to be a key molecule in the interactions occurring in the context of tumor microenvironment, mediating both survival and migratory signals for CLL cells. By taking advantage of gene expression profiling studies (GEP) comparing 11 CD38pos (CD38>30%) and 15 CD38neg (CD38<10%) CLLs, we identified as over-expressed in CD38pos CLL cells: i) genes for the two C-C chemokines CCL3 and CCL4 (median-log difference, MLD-CCL3= 3.5; MLD-CCL4=4.4); real-time quantitative PCR (RTQ-PCR) of selected cases confirmed GEP results; ii) the gene for CD49d (MLD=4.4); a high correlation between CD38 and CD49d pro…

Determinants of failure in the reconstruction of the tympanic membrane: A case-control study

2018

Introduction: The recurrence rate after tympanoplasty is variable between 0% and 50%. The causes of failure may be different and frequently interrelated, making the surgical choice difficult and the prognosis not always favourable. In this study, we analysed recurrence rate and the possible causes of failure of tympanoplasty in the treatment of tympanic perforations. Materials and Methods: This prospective case-control study was carried out on patients undergoing tympanoplasty. The main outcome was closure of the tympanic membrane. Results: Among the studied 72 patients, the overall recurrence rate was 19.4%. The average follow-up was 28 months; no recurrence was observed over 12 months of …

2019

The engraving of València from the Primera parte de la crónica by Pere Antoni Beuter, originally published in 1546, is the first overview of the city as a whole. It includes a large number of constructions and features of València, configuring, in addition, the most characteristic point of view to represent the city: the northern. Its modernity has to be compared with other valencian and contemporary peninsular urban engravings. Its comparison with other images will help to understand better the meaning of such an important image for the city of València. El grabado de Valencia de la Primera parte de la crónica de Pere Antoni Beuter, publicado originariamente en 1546, constituye la primera …

Santo Dominguito de Val: La ?tradición? como arma arrojadiza a disposición de los poderes establecidos

2019

This study focuses, from a short story of the blood libel of Saint Dominguito de Val, on answering the questions of when and why the ?tradition? was made about this saint, and the specific moments of his Revitalization until the end of the 17th century. Although the short story of the death of this infant has been occupied by the most diverse writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, we take as reference the master Espés and the chroniclers Blancas, Andrés de Uztarroz and Dormer.

The spoken core of British English: a diachronic analysis based on the BNC

2008

This research takes as its starting point a frequency analysis of the demographicspoken subcorpus of the British National Corpus in order to focus on two aspects of the evolution of spoken core vocabulary in British English. The first is the impact on the core of contact with other languages and, the second, the role of lexical innovation and/or replacement in the history of this core. Our analysis, which, to a certain extent, follows up on that carried out in Fuster (2007) questions the hypothesis that the spoken core is immune to foreign influence or that it is highly resistant to change. pennock@uv.es; fuster@uv.es

Behaviour of the plasma concentration of gelatinases and their tissue inhibitors in subjects with venous leg ulcers.

2015

Venous leg ulcers are common in subjects with chronic venous insufficiency. The increased intraluminal pressure causes alteration of the skin microcirculation, leukocyte activation and release of proteolytic enzymes leading to ulceration. An impaired expression and activity of matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) might influence extracellular matrix degradation and deposition in chronic venous ulcers with the failure of the healing process. Our aim was to evaluate plasma concentration of gelatinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) and their inhibitors (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) in subjects with venous leg ulcers before and after the compression therapy. We enrolled 36 subjects (12 …

Effects of deep cervical flexor training on pressure pain thresholds over myofascial trigger points in patients with chronic neck pain.

2012

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of a low-load training program for the deep cervical flexors (DCFs) on pain, disability, and pressure pain threshold (PPT) over cervical myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in patients with chronic neck pain.Thirty patients with chronic idiopathic neck pain participated in a 6-week program of specific training for the DCF, which consisted of active craniocervical flexion performed twice per day (10-20 minutes) for the duration of the trial. Perceived pain and disability (Neck Disability Index, 0-50) and PPT over MTrPs of the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and splenius capitis muscles were measured at the beginning and end of the training…

Factors Differentiating Rural and Urban Population in Determining Anxiety and Depression in Patients with Chronic Cardiovascular Disease: A Pilot Stu…

2021

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to analyze selected variables differentiating rural from urban populations, as well as identify potentially increased levels of depression and anxiety in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease. The study was carried out in 193 patients. The study used the Camberwell Assessment of Need Short Appraisal Schedule (CANSAS), the Health Behavior Inventory Questionnaire (HBI), the WHOQOL-BREF Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale–Modified Version (HADS-M). Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient test and logistic regression were used for analyses. In rural patients, we observed a relationship between anxiety and …
