Analysis of the conflicts of interest disclosed by the program reviewers of the scoliosis research society (SRS) congresses, 2010-2014.
2018
Background Conflicts of interest (COI) between industry and surgeons frequently introduce biases into surgical research. The abstracts submitted for presentation in scientific congresses are usually vetted for any indication of commercial bias. Members of review program committees regularly have recognized qualifications, and therefore certain COI are unavoidable. This study aims to determine the prevalence and magnitude of possible COI among those responsible for the selection of presentations at two important international conferences on spine surgery during a five-year period. Methodology COI declarations by those responsible for the final programs of the annual SRS (Scoliosis Research S…

International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology. XCIV. Adhesion G Protein–Coupled Receptors
2015
The Adhesion family forms a large branch of the pharmacologically important superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). As Adhesion GPCRs increasingly receive attention from a wide spectrum of biomedical fields, the Adhesion GPCR Consortium, together with the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology Committee on Receptor Nomenclature and Drug Classification, proposes a unified nomenclature for Adhesion GPCRs. The new names have ADGR as common dominator followed by a letter and a number to denote each subfamily and subtype, respectively. The new names, with old and alternative names within parentheses, are: ADGRA1 (GPR123), ADGRA2 (GPR124), ADGRA3 (GPR125), ADGRB1 (BAI1…
Nātrija-bismuta titanātu saturošu cieto šķīdumu struktūra
2015
Maģistra darbā ar rentgendifrakcijas metodi ir pētītas divas cieto šķīdumu sistēmas - Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3–PbTiO3 un Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-CaTiO3. Difrakcijas ainu analīzei izmantota Ritvelda metode. Cietajos šķīdumos atkarībā no cietā šķīduma sastāva novēro gan plašus kristālisko fāzu koeksistences temperatūru intervālus, gan asas fāzu pārejas. Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3–PbTiO3 cieto šķīdumu sistēmā novērojams gan paraelektrisks, gan relaksora, gan segnetoelektrisks stāvoklis atkarībā no sastāva. Abās sistēmās veikti rentgendifrakcijas mērījumi un to analīze cietajiem šķīdumiem, uz kuriem iedarbojas elektriskais lauks. Polarizētam Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3 novēro fāzu pāreju uz literatūrā neminētu makroskopisku…
STRUKTŪRA UN ĶĪMISKAIS SASTĀVS CIETAJOS ŠĶĪDUMOS UZ Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 BĀZES
2020
Bedside surgery in the newborn infants: Survey of the Italian society of pediatric surgery
2020
Abstract Introduction This is the report of the first official survey from the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery (ISPS) to appraise the distribution and organization of bedside surgery in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Italy. Methods A questionnaire requesting general data, staff data and workload data of the centers was developed and sent by means of an online cloud-based software instrument to all Italian pediatric surgery Units. Results The survey was answered by 34 (65%) out of 52 centers. NICU bedside surgery is reported in 81.8% of the pediatric surgery centers. A lower prevalence of bedside surgical practice in the NICU was reported for Southern Italy and the islands …
Position paper on liver and kidney diseases from the Italian Association for the Study of Liver (AISF), in collaboration with the Italian Society of …
2021
Abstract Liver and kidney are strictly connected in a reciprocal manner, in both the physiological and pathological condition. The Italian Association for the Study of Liver, in collaboration with the Italian Society of Nephrology, with this position paper aims to provide an up-to-date overview on the principal relationships between these two important organs. A panel of well-recognized international expert hepatologists and nephrologists identified five relevant topics: 1) The diagnosis of kidney damage in patients with chronic liver disease; 2) Acute kidney injury in liver cirrhosis; 3) Association between chronic liver disease and chronic kidney disease; 4) Kidney damage according to dif…

Guidelines summarize and evaluate available evidence with the aim of assisting health professionals in proposing the best management strategies for an individual patient with a given condition. Guidelines and their recommendations should facilitate decision making of health professionals in their daily practice. However, the final decisions concerning an individual patient must be made by the responsible health professional(s) in consultation with the patient and caregiver as appropriate.
Posttransplant Management of Recipients Undergoing Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma. Working Group Report From the ILTS Transplant …
2020
Although liver transplantation (LT) is the best treatment for patients with localized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), recurrence occurs in 6%-18% of patients. Several factors, particularly morphological criteria combined with dynamic parameters, known before LT modify this risk and combined in prediction models may be used to stratify patients at need of variable surveillance strategies. Additional variables though likely explain differences in recurrence rates in patients with the same pre-LT HCC status. One of these variables is possibly immunosuppression (IS). Once recurrence takes place, management is highly heterogenous. Within the International Liver Transplantation Society Consensus …
EASL Clinical Practice Guidelines: Management of hepatocellular carcinoma
2018
Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the second most frequent cause of cancer-related death globally. Hepatocellular carcinoma represents about 90% of primary liver cancers and constitutes a major global health problem. The following Clinical Practice Guidelines will give up-to-date advice for the clinical management of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as providing an in-depth review of all the relevant data leading to the conclusions herein.
