Momentum partition between constituents of exotic atoms during laser-induced tunneling ionization

2015

The tunneling ionization of exotic atoms such as muonic hydrogen, muonium, and positronium in a strong laser field of circular polarization is investigated, taking into account the impact of the motion of the center of mass on the the tunneling ionization dynamics. The momentum partition between the ionization products is deduced. The effect of the center-of-mass motion for the momentum distribution of the ionization components is determined. The effect scales with the ratio of the electron (muon) to the atomic core masses and is nonnegligible for exotic atoms, while being insignificant for common atoms. It is shown that the electron (muon) momentum shift during the under-the-barrier motion…

Solution of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations and fitting procedure using the N2LO Skyrme pseudopotential in spherical symmetry

2017

International audience; We present the development of the extended Skyrme N2LO pseudopotential in the case of spherical even-even nuclei calculations. The energy density functional is first presented. Then we derive the mean-field equations and discuss the numerical method used to solve the resulting fourth-order differential equation together with the behavior of the solutions at the origin. Finally, a fitting procedure for such an N2LO interaction is discussed and we provide a first parametrization. Typical ground-state observables are calculated and compared against experimental data.

Fully relativistic non-linear cosmological evolution in spherical symmetry using the BSSN formalism

2014

We present a fully relativistic numerical method for the study of cosmological problems using the Baumgarte-Shapiro-Shibata-Nakamura formalism on a dynamical Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker background. This has many potential applications including the study of the growth of structures beyond the linear regime. We present one such application by reproducing the Lema\^itre-Tolman-Bondi solution for the collapse of pressureless matter with arbitrary lapse function. The regular and smooth numerical solution at the center of coordinates proceeds in a natural way by relying on the Partially Implicit Runge-Kutta algorithm described in Montero and Cordero-Carri\'on [arXiv:1211.5930]. We gene…

Fully covariant and conformal formulation of the Z4 system in a reference-metric approach: Comparison with the BSSN formulation in spherical symmetry

2014

We adopt a reference-metric approach to generalize a covariant and conformal version of the Z4 system of the Einstein equations. We refer to the resulting system as ``fully covariant and conformal", or fCCZ4 for short, since it is well suited for curvilinear as well as Cartesian coordinates. We implement this fCCZ4 formalism in spherical polar coordinates under the assumption of spherical symmetry using a partially-implicit Runge-Kutta (PIRK) method and show that our code can evolve both vacuum and non-vacuum spacetimes without encountering instabilities. Our method does not require regularization of the equations to handle coordinate singularities, nor does it depend on constraint-preservi…

On the observability of parity and time reversal violating interactions by trapped ion spectroscopy

1982

The feasibility to measure neutral weak current interactions by spectroscopy on trapped ions is investigated. The sensitivity of the proposed experiment is compared to the sensitivity of similar experiments using atomic gases or beams. It is shown that there is no advantage as far as that part of the interaction is concerned which is a vector in the nucleon current and an axial vector in the electron current. This is mainly due to the relatively low ion density. The circular polarization however depending upon the nuclear spin orientation appears to be proportional to the coherence time, which is three orders of magnitude longer than in ordinary atomic beam resonance experiments. It is poin…

Polarization corrections to single-particle energies studied within the energy-density-functional and quasiparticle random-phase approximation approa…

2014

Background: Models based on using perturbative polarization corrections and mean-field blocking approximation give conflicting results for masses of odd nuclei. Purpose: We systematically investigate the polarization and mean-field models, implemented within self-consistent approaches that use identical interactions and model spaces, to find reasons for the conflicts between them. Methods: For density-dependent interactions and with pairing correlations included, we derive and study links between the mean-field and polarization results obtained for energies of odd nuclei. We also identify and discuss differences between the polarization-correction and full particle-vibration-coupling (PVC) …

New physics implication of Higgs precision measurements

2018

Studying the properties of the Higgs boson can be an important window to explore the physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In this work, we present studies on the implications of the Higgs precision measurements at future Higgs Factories. We perform a global fit to various Higgs search channels to obtain the 95 % C.L. constraints on the model parameter spaces of Two Higgs Double Model (2HDM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In the 2HDM, we analyze tree level effects as well as one-loop contributions from the heavy Higgs bosons. The strong constraints on $\cos(\beta-\alpha)$, heavy Higgs masses and their mass splitting are complementary to direct search of the LHC as well …

Die zirkulare Polarisation der inneren Bremsstrahlung beim K-Einfang von A37

1958

The circular polarization of the internal bremsstrahlung was measured for various photon energies by scattering on magnetized iron. In the spectral range investigated, complete polarization was found within the measuring error. An average value of P/sub c/ = +1.03 plus or minus 0.04 was obtained. This shows that the maximum parity violation occurs also in K-capture. (tr-auth)

Vacuum polarization around stars: Nonlocal approximation

2004

We compute the vacuum polarization associated with quantum massless fields around stars with spherical symmetry. The nonlocal contribution to the vacuum polarization is dominant in the weak field limit, and induces quantum corrections to the exterior metric that depend on the inner structure of the star. It also violates the null energy conditions. We argue that similar results also hold in the low energy limit of quantum gravity. Previous calculations of the vacuum polarization in spherically symmetric spacetimes, based on local approximations, are not adequate for newtonian stars.

Quasistationary solutions of self-gravitating scalar fields around black holes

2015

Recent perturbative studies have shown the existence of long-lived, quasistationary configurations of scalar fields around black holes. In particular, such configurations have been found to survive for cosmological time scales, which is a requirement for viable dark matter halo models in galaxies based on such types of structures. In this paper we perform a series of numerical relativity simulations of dynamical nonrotating black holes surrounded by self-gravitating scalar fields. We solve numerically the coupled system of equations formed by the Einstein and the Klein-Gordon equations under the assumption of spherical symmetry using spherical coordinates. Our results confirm the existence …
