Anaerobic Digestion (AD) process is steadily growing, as more people are setting up bioreactors in order to produce biogas and digestate. Pressure-induced magnetic switching and linkage isomerism in K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 x 16 H2O: X-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism studies.

The effect of applied pressure on the magnetic properties of the Prussian blue analogue K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 x 16 H2O (1) has been analyzed by dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. Under ambient conditions, 1 orders ferromagnetically at a critical temperature (T(C)) of 18.5 K. Under application of pressure in the 0-1200 MPa range, the magnetization of the material decreases and its critical temperature shifts to lower temperatures, reaching T(C) = 7.5 K at 1200 MPa. Pressure-dependent Raman and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements show that this striking behavior is due to the isomerization of some Cr(III)-C[triple bond]N-Fe(II) linkages to the Cr(III)-N[triple bond]C-Fe(II) form. Enhanced orbital magnetic moments in the Heusler compounds ,,

Abstract Using the magnetic circular dichroism in X-ray absorption at the L2,3-edges of the 3d-transition metals, we determined the element specific ratio between orbital and spin magnetic moment of the Heusler compounds Co 2 CrAl , Co 2 Cr 0.6 Fe 0.4 Al and Co2FeAl. The orbital magnetic moment per spin is large (0.1–0.2) compared to bulk values of Fe and Co metals.

Aqueous extracts from blackcurrant press cake (BC), Norway spruce bark (NS), Scots pine bark (SP), and sea buckthorn leaves (SB) were obtained using maceration and pressurized hot water and tested for their bioactivities. Maceration provided the extraction of higher dry matter contents, including total phenolics (TPC), anthocyanins, and condensed tannins, which also impacted higher antioxidant activity. NS and SB extracts presented the highest mean values of TPC and antioxidant activity. Individually, NS extract presented high contents of proanthocyanidins, resveratrol, and some phenolic acids. Poor Esophageal Motility: A Tailored Approach?

New onset dysphagia following antireflux surgery is among the most undesirable side effects of an otherwise excellent therapy. While its cause is multifactorial, insufficient circular muscle strength of the esophageal body, not powerful enough to force the bolus through the distal neo-high pressure zone, can be a component of the pathophysiology. The relative merits of “tailoring” the degree of fundoplication based upon esophageal body motility and/or other clinical features have been debated for decades. Herein we discuss the rationale for a tailored approach, its pros and cons and review data published to date available to guide the clinician in individual patient decision-making.

Azapropazone binding to human serum albumin

Azapropazone, a new non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, is strongly bound to human serum albumin. As revealed by Scatchard analysis, one high-affinity binding site with an association constant of about 1.2 x 10(6)M-1 and two low-affinity binding sites with association constants of about 0.05 x 10(6)M-1 were found. While the high-affinity binding site of azapropazone is clearly not identical with the diazepam or digitoxin binding sites of human serum albumin, contradictory evidence was found by optical measurements and displacement studies for the similarity of the azapropazone and the warfarin binding site of human serum albumin. Constraint preserving boundary conditions for the Z4c formulation of general relativity

We discuss high order absorbing constraint preserving boundary conditions for the Z4c formulation of general relativity coupled to the moving puncture family of gauges. We are primarily concerned with the constraint preservation and absorption properties of these conditions. In the frozen coefficient approximation, with an appropriate first order pseudo-differential reduction, we show that the constraint subsystem is boundary stable on a four dimensional compact manifold. High-order harmonic generation via bound-bound transitions in an elliptically polarized laser field

We use a simplified five-level system to investigate the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectrum emitted by an atom driven by a linearly or elliptically polarized laser field. For this model, the Schrödinger equation is exactly analytically reduced to the system of ordinary differential equations, which is solved numerically. Studying the intensity and polarization of the emitted radiation, we find that under high laser ellipticity the harmonic emission is suppressed. However, the harmonic intensity typically depends nonmonotonously on the laser ellipticity. Such anomalous behavior is very pronounced for the resonant harmonic.
