Washington, une ville mondiale ?
2001
Washington DC is rarely mentioned in the scientific literature on world cities. However, its influence on the world economy is obvious (World Bank, IMF, Federal Reserve). As a new immigration center, Washington has grown rapidly into an international city. It is suggested that the concept of global city must be re-examined to propose a more flexible definition.

Solving congestion in cities : policies and contradictions
2009
International audience; Most cities in the world are now facing traffic gridlock. Local governements and transportation authorities are trying to tame a phenomenon which takes in fact very different forms depending on the level of social and economic development. Is it really possible to compare freeway gridlock in Los Angeles with rickshaw gridlock in Dhaka, Bangladesh ? When French cities embrace the development of urban bicycling, Chinese cities limit the use of bicycles. Using cases of cities in different parts of world, this presentation willl try to find some common trends in urban mobility policies and examine some contradictory developments.

Contributi per città storiche accessibili tra didattica, ricerca e nuove prassi
2021
The essay is the introduction to the section of the volume 'Accessibility to the historical city' in which innovative essays on the dialectics between Conservation and Accessibility have converged, in the major Italian cities in which common reflections emerge on the need to develop the theme in an interdisciplinary approach, to devise a for-all planning coordinated with urban planning and territorial development dynamics, and to pursue targeted training for community-integrated specialists.
PLANETS AROUND LOW-MASS STARS AND STELLAR ACTIVITY EFFECTS
In the last years the field of exoplanet research has focused its interest in M dwarfs. These stars have became the favourite targets in radial velocity surveys, specially when looking for small planets in the habitable zones of their parent stars. Not only for being the M dwarfs the most common objects in our Galaxy also because the Doppler signals due to small planets orbiting around them are larger and more easily detectable than those around FGK stars. However, stellar magnetic activity and rotation affect the measured radial velocities as surface inhomogeneities rotating with the stellar surface can cause periodic changes in the spectral line centroid. Disentangle these stellar activit…
Neighborhood resources associated with active travel in older adults: A cohort study in six European Countries
2020
Objectives: To study associations between perceived neighborhood resources and time spent by older adults in active travel. Methods: Respondents in six European countries, aged 65–85 years, reported on the perceived presence of neighborhood resources (parks, places to sit, public transportation, and facilities) with response options “a lot,” “some,” and “not at all.” Daily active travel time (total minutes of transport-related walking and cycling) was self-reported at the baseline (n = 2,695) and 12–18 months later (n = 2,189). Results: Reporting a lot of any of the separate resources (range B’s = 0.19–0.29) and some or a lot for all four resources (B = 0.22, 95% confidence interval [0.09, …
2020
Three artists in exile focuses on the historical diaspora provoked by the Spanish civil war (1936- 1939), and how it influenced three prominent figures of the cultural scene of that period: the writer and typographer Max Aub Mohrenwitz (Paris, 1903-Ciudad de Mexico, 1972); the architect Félix Candela Outeriño (Madrid, 1910-Raleigh, US, 1977); and the artist Josep Renau Berenguer (Valencia, 1907-Berlín, 1982). They are the three protagonists of this article, who were simultaneously living in Mexico during the exile and who made notable contributions in the fields of arts and humanities (Max Aub), architecture (Félix Candela), and graphic design and photomontage (Josep Renau). While they were…
