Laparoscopic Management of External Iliac Artery Injury Using Yasargil Clamps and Intracorporeal Suture

Presented is a case report of laparoscopic repair of an external iliac artery injury using titanium Yasargil clamps and intracorporeal suture during lymphadenectomy. Yasargil clamps were introduced and placed, 1 distal and 1 proximal to the lesion. The vascular injury site was identified and repaired using intracorporeal sutures. Laparoscopic staging was completed successfully. No sign of thrombosis or vascular occlusion was detected. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 4 to receive adjuvant therapy. The gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor (GABA(A)R) represents a ligand-gated Cl(-)-channel assembling as heteropentamere from 19 known subunits. Cerebellar granule cells contain a unique subset, namely the alpha1-, alpha6-, beta2-, gamma2- and delta-subunits. We studied their GABAergic pharmacology in situ using whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in brain slices and a modified Y-tube application system. In the present study, we demonstrate that choline, a precursor of acetylcholine (ACh) and a product of acetylcholine hydrolysis by acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acts as an efficient and relatively selective agonist of alpha7-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in neurons cultured from the rat hippocampus, olfactory bulb and thalamus as well as in PC12 cells. Choline was able to activate postsynaptic and presynaptic alpha7 nAChRs, with the latter action resulting in the release of other neurotransmitters. Although choline was approximately one order of magnitude less potent than ACh (EC50 of 1.6 mM for choline and 0.13 mM for ACh), it acted as a full agonist at alpha7 nAChRs.…

A method is introduced to study the effects of flexural deformation on the electrical performance of thin-film lithium-ion batteries. Flexural deformation of thin films is of interest to engineers for applications that can be effective in conformal spaces in conjunction with multi-functional composite laminates in structural members under mechanical deflections such as thin airfoils used in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Cyclam derivatives have been grafted via 1, 2 or 4 silylated arms to the surface of mesoporous silica and the resulting materials have been incorporated into carbon paste electrodes and applied to the preconcentration electroanalysis of Cu(II). Diamino derivatives of anthracene and anthraquinone have been synthesised by palladium-catalysed coupling of 1,8-dichloroanthracene and 1,8-dichloroanthraquinone with a wide range of aliphatic and aromatic primary and secondary amines. The use of polyamines gave rise to a large number of new nitrogen- and oxygen-containing macrocycles incorporating anthracene or anthraquinone moieties. The method has also been employed for the preparation of bismacrocycles in which two cyclam or azacrown units are linked together by an anthracene bridge through C(sp2)−N bonds. An anthracene-functionalised cyclam-copper(II) complex for the detection of HS- in aqueous environments has been prepared. This probe displays poor fluorescence but can selectively and sensitively detect HS- anions in water over other anions, biothiols and common oxidants such as H2O2 through remarkably enhanced emission. This turn-on response in the presence of the HS- anion is ascribed to a demetallation reaction that inhibits emission quenching observed in the initial complex as a result of the presence of the paramagnetic Cu2+ centre. Diabetic therapeutic potentiality of methanol extract of stem leaves of Boerhavia diffusa was investigated following in-vivo study models in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat. Methanol extract of stem leaves of Boerhavia diffusa exerted the glucose lowering effect an increase in serum insulin level on 28st day of postadministration.
