Gli inni a Venere di Troiolo (Filostr. 3.74-89) e di Panfilo (Pamph. 1-70)
2022
In the essay in question an unprecedented parallel is proposed between the hymn that Troilus addresses to the goddess Venus, in Giovanni Boccaccio's «Filostrato» (Filostr. 3.74-89) and the hymn that Panfi…

The action of the unitary group associated with a quadratic extension of fields
1999
Given a quadratic extension L/k of fields of characteristic different from 2 and a unitary space (V, f) of finite dimension over L, we give a representation, as simple as possible, of the form which f induces by restriction on a k-substructure of V. This, in turn, allows one to study the orbits of the unitary group U(V, f) in the set of k-substructures of V of a given dimension.

On the history of torsional stress concentrations in shafts: From electrical analogies to numerical methods
2014
This article proposes a retrospective on experimental and numerical methods developed throughout the past century to solve the torsion problem in shafts, with particular emphasis on the determination of shear stress concentration factors in discontinuities of typical use in shaft design. This article, in particular, presents the theory and related solutions distinguishing between two classes of geometries: shafts with constant cross section and axisymmetric shafts with variable diameter. Emphasis is given to approaches based on physical analog methods and, in particular, those based on electrical analogies proposed since about 1925. Experimental methods based on structural physical models …
Qualitative characterisation of effective interactions of charged spheres on different levels of organisation using Alexander’s renormalised charge a…
2005
Abstract Effective interactions are conveniently determined from experimental or numerical data by fitting a Debye–Huckel potential with an effective charge Z ∗ and an effective electrolyte concentration c ∗ as free parameters. In this contribution we numerically solved the Poisson–Boltzmann equation to obtain the so-called renormalised charge Z PBC ∗ . For sufficiently large bare charge Z one finds a saturation of Z ∗ which scales as Z ∗ = A a / λ B , where a is the particle radius, λ B the Bjerrum length and A a proportionality factor of order (8–10). The saturation value increases with increased total micro-ion concentration and shows a shallow minimum as a function of packing fraction. …
