It may seem somewhat odd to study the way by which the defeat of Aigos-Potamoi is described in a discourse which is an utter praise of the excellence of Athens as is the Panathenaic Oration of Aelius Aristides. Nevertheless, the account of this event (§ 252-263) is significant. Thanks to two successive rhetorical stratagems (move to the Thirty episode and comparison with Marathon), the battle of Aigos-Potamoi is concealed as a defeat and changed into victory. Besides, this defeat is both anticipated and extended through the oration. La Légende dorée de Jacques de Voragine, compilation hagiographique fondée sur l’assemblage de sources hétérogènes, fonctionne également comme un instrument de domestication du temps pour le compilateur, le prédicateur et le lecteur du légendier. Elle tresse ainsi une pluralité d’écritures de l’histoire au sein d’une organisation calendaire, à haut rendement symbolique. Ce lien avec l’appréhension du temps est étudié à travers certains manuscrits où elle se trouve copiée à côté de textes historiographiques.

On Jung and Lévi-Strauss unconscious: A brief comparison

Retracing the main common aspects between the anthropological thought and the psychoanalytic one, in this paper we will further discuss about the main common points between the notions of unconscious according to Carl Gustav Jung and Claude Lévi-Strauss, taking into account the Erich Neumann thought. On the basis of very simple elementary logic considerations centered around the basic notion of separation of opposites, what will be said might turn out to be useful for some speculations upon possible origins of the rational thought, hence for the origins of consciousness.
Measurements of diachronic stability of agrarian exploitation

International audience; Off-site material has two main interesting properties which are that it is spatially continuous and diachronic. Such data can be used to estimate how ancient societies invested in a space in terms of intensity, durability and stability, over the long term. This micro-analysis is based on a precise record of off-site material based on collection units which never exceed five hectares. Each off-site sherd was dated and attributed to one of seven chronological phases. Three new indicators are proposed to measure the level of investment of ancient societies. Estimates for Divergence Velocities of Axially Moving Orthotropic Thin Plates

Some models for axially moving orthotropic thin plates are investigated analytically via methods of complex analysis to derive estimates for critical plate velocities. Linearised Kirchhoff plate theory is used, and the energy forms of steady-state models are considered with homogeneous and inhomogeneous tension profiles in the cross direction of the plate. With the help of the energy forms, some limits for the divergence velocity of the plate are found analytically. In numerical examples, the derived lower limits for the divergence velocity are analysed for plates with small flexural rigidity. peerReviewed
