Abstract Since its coinage in the nineteenth century, the concept of Carolingian renaissance has been primarily based on the revival of classical texts promoted by Charlemagne and his successors. Among the positive consequences of Carolingian classicism is the careful—if discreet—preservation of the text of Lucretius’s De Rerum Natura, which survives in three valuable ninth-century manuscripts. Whereas rigorous philological studies of these manuscripts have been offered, little attention has been paid to their role in, and connection with, the reception of Lucretius in ninth-century literature. Charles Brockden Brown embraced the classical tradition in English literature, as can be seen from his many references to Greek and Roman historiographers, poets, and philosophers. His retellings of ancient events and his portraits of classical figures questioned central maxims in the writing of history which derived from Cicero and had been practiced by the later school of eighteenth-century exemplary historiography. La collocazione della campana Valera, rifusa nel 1679, comportò la necessità di costruire un nuovo e più solido campanile per la cattedrale di Saragozza. Dal 1680, infatti, si avvicendarono nella città aragonese diversi artefici che presentarono al Capitolo svariati progetti da sottoporre al giudizio di Francisco de Herrera el Mozo, architetto di Carlo II. Il saggio analizza la produzione architettonica, tra Quattro e Cinquecento, nell'ambito delle grandi isole del Mediterraneo centrale e occidentale, territori, come è noto, legati politicamente e commercialmente.La corona aragonese, nell'età di Alfonso il Magnanimo, aveva infatti permesso la formazione di una solida e organica civiltà artistica, prodotta anche della mobilità dei maestri.Obiettivo del contributo è ragionare sui risultati dell'ultima stagione del gotico che ha permeato questi luoghi e che ha opposto resistenza nei confronti della pressione del classicismo proveniente dal nord italia.
