Aquest article presenta els elements clau de sis projectes d'investigació alicada dins la realitat local gallega entre els anys 2001 i 2011. Tots ells han sigut realitzats pel grup SEPA (Pedagogia Social i Educació Ambiental) de la Universitat de Santiago de Compostela en conveni amb diverses entitats; en els casos que s'analitzen, ajuntaments, Diputació, Fundació Ciutat de la Cultura de Galicia i Eix Atlàntic del Nord-oest Peninsular. També s'ofereix una reflexió des de l'experiència respecte al potencial i las limitacions d'aquesta mena d'investigació.

There are only a few published studies on the association between subclavian steal syndrome and ischemic heart disease. The objective of this report is to evaluate the efficacy of subclavian stenoocclusion treatment in patients with subclavian steal syndrome (SSS) and previous cor- onary bypass. Over the last 8 years we observed 207 patients who underwent left internal mammary artery–intraventricular artery (LIMA–IVA) bypass graft. Background Additional heat polymerization in composite resins allows greater effectiveness of microhardness, flexural strength, fracture toughness, wear resistance, and increased color stability. Material and Methods 150 composite resin specimens were made using a 4 mm diameter and 2 mm thick bipartite steel matrix. Five resins composed of different compositions were tested (Brilliant Everglow/Coltene, Filtek One BulkFill/3M, Filtek P60/3M, Filtek Z350XT/3M, Filtek Z250XT/3M), and for each of them three types of polymerization were tested: light curing only (n=50); photopolymerization + autoclave thermopolymerization (n=50) and photopolymerization + microwave thermopolymerization (n=50). …
Microwave synthesis of yttria stabilized zirconia

Yttria stabilised zirconia (YSZ) nanocrystals, with a mean size between 5 and 10 nm, were prepared by microwave flash synthesis. Flash synthesis was performed in alcoholic solutions of yttrium, zirconium chloride and sodium ethoxide (EtONa) using a microwave autoclave (RAMO system) specially designed by authors. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), BET adsorption technique, photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM) are used to characterized these nanoparticles. Abstract The present article presents, for the first time, the last developments reported for an original microwave hydrothermal flash synthesis of Fe–Co alloys (FeyCo1−y)/cobalt ferrite (Fe3−xCoxO4) nanocomposites. Synthesis was performed in alcoholic solutions of ferrous chloride, cobalt chloride and sodium ethoxide (EtONa) using a microwave autoclave (The RAMO system) specially designed by authors. Compared with conventional synthesis, smaller grains (100 nm compared to 1 μm) can be produced in a short period (e.g. 10 s) using a less basic medium. Abstract This study focuses on the comenditic trachyte enclaves hosted in pantelleritic lava and pumices emplaced during one of the most recent eruptive events at Pantelleria (~ 6 ka). Enclaves range from mm-sized fragments to dm-sized blocks with spheroidal to amoeboid shapes and characteristic globular surfaces; they are crystal-rich with ~ 30 vol% large anorthoclase, less abundant Fe-rich olivine, clinopyroxene and Fe–Ti oxides. Vesicles ranging from a few mm to 1–2 cm in size are distributed throughout the enclave and are commonly filled with microlite-free vesicular glass. Paper-TiO2 composite: An effective photocatalyst for 2-propanol degradation in gas phase

Two simple routes for the synthesis of a paper-TiO2 composite were tuned up and the efficiency of the resulting paper-TiO2 photocatalyst was investigated in the 2-propanol oxidation in gas phase. The first route involved the in-situ generation over the sheet of paper of a TiO2 layer starting from a solution of Ti (OBu)4 in tert-butanoliacetic acid, followed by hydrothermal treatment at 120 degrees C for 3 h. The sample was labelled as paper-TiO2 (H). The second approach was based on the adsorption on the paper of a ready-made suspension of titania nanoparticles (TiO2 sol), generated in autoclave at 140 degrees C and stable in acid medium at pH <3.
