The Pterogyne nitens (Fabaceae) tree, native to South America, has been found to produce guanidine alkaloids as well as bioactive flavonols such as kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin. In the present study, we examined the possibility of interaction between human ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter ABCB1 and four guanidine alkaloids isolated from P. nitens (i.e., galegine, nitensidine A, pterogynidine, and pterogynine) using human T cell lymphoblast-like leukemia cell line CCRF-CEM and its multi-drug resistant (MDR) counterpart CEM/ADR5000. 13C NMR absorption spectra of 50 bicyclic hydrocarbons, alcohols and ketones have been measured, in addition to some terpenes. The 13C chemical shifts are approximately additive for similar compounds and can be used for the determination of molecular structure; they differ for endo- and exo-isomers, just as in proton spectra. These quite regular and predictable 13C shift differences are much larger and are caused by the 1,4-nonbonded interaction between atoms heavier than hydrogen, not by magnetic anisotropy effects.

Anticoagulant Activity of the Enantiomers of Acenocoumarol in Man

For the mono-coumarin derivatives warfarin and phen-procoumon it was shown that in man and rats the S(−) enantiomer is several times more potent as anticoagulant than the R(+) enantiomer. These stereoselective differences in the anticoagulant potency reflect differences in the affinity for the receptor site rather than differences in the pharmacokinetics.

The chromatographic behaviour (retention, selectivity, peak shape and resolution) of seven tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), amitryptiline, clomipramine, doxepin, imipramine, maprotiline, nortryptiline and trimipramine, was examined. Conventional unendcapped Cs and C18 columns and an endcapped XTerra MS C18 column recommended for the analysis of basic compounds were used together with acetonitrile-water and micellar sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)-pentanol mobile phases. The two best combinations were XTerra C18/acetonitrile, which yielded the largest efficiencies and resolution, and C8/SDS-pentanol, which eliminated the peak tails that were still observed with the XTerra C18 column. Abstract The determination of 15 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in olive oil samples has been improved in order to obtain a fast methodology with a low limit of detection through the combination of liquid–liquid extraction with acetonitrile and preparative gel permeation chromatography (GPC) prior to the injection of purified extracts into a C18 column. Acetonitrile–water was used as the mobile phase with a gradient from 50 to 95%, w/w, acetonitrile in 30 min. Mutations in the genes for CNGA3, CNGB3, and GNAT2 have been associated with this disorder. Here, we analyzed the spectrum and prevalence of CNGB3 gene mutations in a cohort of 341 independent patients with achromatopsia. In 163 patients, CNGB3 mutations could be identified.
