Effect of mixing and spatial dimension on the glass transition

2009

We study the influence of composition changes on the glass transition of binary hard disc and hard sphere mixtures in the framework of mode coupling theory. We derive a general expression for the slope of a glass transition line. Applied to the binary mixture in the low concentration limits, this new method allows a fast prediction of some properties of the glass transition lines. The glass transition diagram we find for binary hard discs strongly resembles the random close packing diagram. Compared to 3D from previous studies, the extension of the glass regime due to mixing is much more pronounced in 2D where plasticization only sets in at larger size disparities. For small size disparitie…

Determinantes de la divulgación de información sobre sostenibilidad en los gobiernos locales de Latinoamérica

2022

This paper analyses the socioeconomic factors that influence the disclosure of sustainability information on 99 local government websites in 2018 in countries that make up the Pacific Alliance (PA) in Latin America, associated with internal and external demands that public entities have for accountability in social and environmental issues. We use as methodology a content analysis of the sustainability information disclosed by local entities on their websites and a regression of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). This article shows empirical evidence that the size, budget capacity and the economic level of the municipality are factors associated with the sustainability disclosure on websites due…

Influence of Heat Treatment on Fatigue Crack Growth in Ti-6Al-4V Alloy

2011

The paper contains the results of experimental work carried out in order to analyse the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks in Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. The tests were performed on plane specimens with the stress concentrators in form of one-sided sharp notches. The tested specimens were made of the oxygenated Ti-6Al-4V subjected to various variants of heat treatment.

Molecular analysis suggests that recent Citrus tristeza virus outbreaks in Italy were originated by at least two independent introductions

2005

Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is the causal agent of the most important virus disease of citrus. Numerous CTV isolates differing in biological and molecular characteristics have been reported worldwide. Recently, CTV was detected in Italy in several citrus crops from three separate areas: (1) Cassibile, province of Syracuse; (2) Massafra, province of Taranto; and (3) Belpasso, province of Catania. CTV isolates from Massafra and Cassibile were mild, whereas isolates from Belpasso induced severe symptoms. To study the genetic variation of CTV populations of these areas, 150 samples per area were examined by single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) and nucleotide sequence analysis of CTV g…

Evolutionary paths of binaries with a neutron star - I. The case of SAX J1808.4 - 3658

2018

The evolutionary status of the low mass X-ray binary SAX J1808.4-3658 is simulated by following the binary evolution of its possible progenitor system through mass transfer, starting at a period of $\sim$6.6 hr. The evolution includes angular momentum losses via magnetic braking and gravitational radiation. It also takes into account the effects of illumination of the donor by both the X-ray emission and the spin down luminosity of the pulsar. The system goes through stages of mass transfer and stages during which it is detached, where only the rotationally powered pulsar irradiates the donor. We show that the pulsar irradiation is a necessary ingredient to reach SAX J1808.4-3658 orbital pe…

Discovery of an epidermoid of the skull concomitant with a homolateral subacute traumatic subdural hematoma

1979

The case of a man of 32 years with an epidermoid of the left side of the skull is reported. The tumor itself was asymptomatic and was discovered accidentally because of a subdural hematoma on the same side. After a closed head injury, this patient had symptoms of an intracranial space occupying lesion (hematoma) on the left after a symptom-free interval. The left carotid angiogram demonstrated the characteristic picture of a subdural hematoma in the left parieto-temporo-occipital region. At the same time, characteristic changes in the skull on the same side, which were more apparent after removal of the hematoma, suggested an epidermal tumour of the skull. This was verified at operation.

Relationships of young adults with foster care backgrounds : tensions and management strategies

2021

The present study focuses on experiences of relational tensions and management strategies in family relationships among 18 young adults with foster care backgrounds who participated in interviews. In the analysis drawing from relational dialectics, three main tensions were revealed in the participants' relationships with birth and foster family members or in their romantic relationships: the dialectics of emotional distance‐closeness, integration‐separation and sameness‐otherness. In addition, the tension of the childhood dialectic of responsibility was identified in this study. The tensions were managed utilizing eight strategies. The findings highlight the importance of giving a voice to …

Fleurey-sur-Ouche (Côte-d’Or).

On Słowikowski, Raíkov and De Wilde Closed Graph Theorems

1986

Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the Slowikowski, Raikov and De Wilde closed graph theorems. The vector spaces used in the chapter, are defined over the field Ղ of real or complex numbers. The term, “space” means separated topological vector space, unless the contrary is specifically stated. If Ω is a non-empty open subset of the n -dimensional euclidean space, then the Schwartz space ҟ′(Ω) endowed with the strong topology belongs to this class. The chapter also studies the classes of spaces related with this conjecture. The class of Slowikowski spaces contains the F-spaces and it is stable with respect to the operations that include: countable topological direct sums, closed subsp…

Further evidence for an early Carboniferous (∼340 Ma) age of high-grade metamorphism in the Saxonian granulite complex

1998

U–Pb and Pb–Pb zircon ages for metamorphic zircons from granulites in the Saxonian granulite complex are reported, using the SHRIMP ion microprobe, conventional multigrain and single-gain techniques and the evaporation method. This is complemented by a Pb–Pb evaporation age for a post-granulite granite emplaced into the schist mantle around the granulites during uplift of the complex. We also demonstrate that zircon ages are not reset during high-grade metamorphism, as commonly argued, but have a very high closure temperature and usually preserve the isotopic composition reflecting the time of their formation. Multifaceted zircons from four granulite samples that probably grew close to the …
