Towards a design process for modeling MAS organizations
2012
The design of MAS organizations is a complex activity where a proper methodological approach may offer a significant advantage in enabling the conception of the best solution. Moreover, the aid provided by a supporting tool significantly contributes to make the approach technically sound and it is a fundamental ingredient of a feasible strategy to the development of large MASs. In this paper, we introduce a portion of methodological approach devoted to design MAS organizations and a preliminary version of a specific case tool, named MoT (Moise+ Tool), for supporting activities from design production to automatic code generation. MoT provides four kinds of diagrams based on a definite graphi…
Detection of TV commercials
2004
This paper presents a system that labels TV shots either as commercial or program shots. The system uses two observations: logo presence and shot duration. These observations are modeled using HMMs, and a Viterbi decoder is finally used for shot labeling. The system has been tested on several hours of real video, achieving more than 99% correct labeling.
The problem of interoperability: A common data format for quantum chemistry codes
2007
A common format for quantum chemistry (QC), enhancing code interoperability and communication between different programs, has been designed and implemented. An XML-based format, QC-ML, is presented for representing quantities such as geometry, basis set, and so on, while an HDF5-based format is presented for the storage of large binary data files. Some preliminary applications that use the format have been implemented and are also described. This activity was carried out within the COST in Chemistry D23 project “MetaChem,” in the Working Group “A meta-laboratory for code integration in ab initio methods.” © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Assessment of Deep Learning Methodology for Self-Organizing 5G Networks
2019
In this paper, we present an auto-encoder-based machine learning framework for self organizing networks (SON). Traditional machine learning approaches, for example, K Nearest Neighbor, lack the ability to be precisely predictive. Therefore, they can not be extended for sequential data in the true sense because they require a batch of data to be trained on. In this work, we explore artificial neural network-based approaches like the autoencoders (AE) and propose a framework. The proposed framework provides an advantage over traditional machine learning approaches in terms of accuracy and the capability to be extended with other methods. The paper provides an assessment of the application of …
Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging in the Diffusion Imaging in Python Project
2021
ABSTRACTDiffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) measurements and models provide information about brain connectivity and are sensitive to the physical properties of tissue microstructure. Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging (DKI) quantifies the degree of non-Gaussian diffusion in biological tissue from dMRI. These estimates are of interest because they were shown to be more sensitive to microstructural alterations in health and diseases than measures based on the total anisotropy of diffusion which are highly confounded by tissue dispersion and fiber crossings. In this work, we implemented DKI in the Diffusion in Python (DIPY) project - a large collaborative open-source project which …
Corporate ethical codes as strategic documents: An analysis of success and failure
2009
Ethical codes state the major philosophical principles and values in organizations and function as policy documents which define the responsibilities of organizations to stakeholders. They spell out the conduct expected of employees and articulate the acceptable ethical parameters of behavior in the organization. Most large US and multinational firms today have a code. If utilized effectively and embraced, codes can be key strategic documents in organizations for moderating employee behavior and reducing unethical actions. To be effective they must be communicated well and become a part of the culture of the organization. An ethical code from a major investment bank is analyzed in terms of …
La formalisation de l'éthique:un outil stratégique pertinent pour l'entreprise
2000
Ethical formalization is a statement setting down corporate values, principles and beliefs. Analysis of ethics policies in large France based companies shows that it is becoming a new dimension of management completing corporate strategy. The study of these ethical formal policies is followed by a criticism.
Parallelization strategies for density matrix renormalization group algorithms on shared-memory systems
2003
Shared-memory parallelization (SMP) strategies for density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) algorithms enable the treatment of complex systems in solid state physics. We present two different approaches by which parallelization of the standard DMRG algorithm can be accomplished in an efficient way. The methods are illustrated with DMRG calculations of the two-dimensional Hubbard model and the one-dimensional Holstein-Hubbard model on contemporary SMP architectures. The parallelized code shows good scalability up to at least eight processors and allows us to solve problems which exceed the capability of sequential DMRG calculations.
Necessity of Protecting Religious Feelings under Criminal Law in a Democratic State
2021
Offending religious feelings, as referred to in Article 196 of the Polish Penal Code, was criminalized as follows: ‘Any person who offends the religious feelings of others by publicly insulting an object of religious worship or a place dedicated to the public celebration of religious rites shall be liable to a fine, restriction of freedom or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.’ This study highlights some doubts concerning the protection of freedom of conscience and religion using the example of the crime of offending religious feelings and attempts to prove the necessity of such protection in the Republic of Poland, a democratic state ruled by the law. The study first examines wh…
Overcoming married women’s incapacity under The Spanish Civil code
2018
