Using meta-analytic path analysis to test theoretical predictions in health behavior: An illustration based on meta-analyses of the theory of planned…
2016
Abstract Objective Synthesizing research on social cognitive theories applied to health behavior is an important step in the development of an evidence base of psychological factors as targets for effective behavioral interventions. However, few meta-analyses of research on social cognitive theories in health contexts have conducted simultaneous tests of theoretically-stipulated pattern effects using path analysis. We argue that conducting path analyses of meta-analytic effects among constructs from social cognitive theories is important to test nomological validity, account for mediation effects, and evaluate unique effects of theory constructs independent of past behavior. We illustrate o…
Spanish Data CATI interview
2022
[Grant RTI2018-098349-B-I00] was provided by Ministry of Science and Innovation – State Research Agency of Spain /10.13039/501100011033/ and by the European Union European Regional Development Fund A way of making Europe. We include a base of excel with data of the interview Children’s Anxious Thoughts Interview (CATI), and the children versions fro…
Spatial representations of the future in Homeric Greek
The aim of this paper is to investigate the space-time mapping of the future in Homeric Greek. It is widely accepted that the spatial adverbs πρόσσω ‘in front’ and ὀπίσσω ‘behind’ in the Homeric poems are used to portray temporal events located in a sequence of aligned entities that follow one after the other on the same path (Dunkel 1983: 66). In such a temporal sequence, or Time-RP model, those adverbs are associated respectively to past and future events in a dichotomous spatial representation of time, without involving a deictic ego-experiencer. After analyzing data from the Homeric poems in a cognitive linguistic perspective, it is found that some temporal uses of the preposition πρό ‘…
Henkilöhahmon sisäinen konflikti Väinö Linnan romaanissa Tuntematon sotilas
2015
The object of this study is character´s internal conflict in the novel. The primary research question is: What are the internal conflicts of characters like in Väinö Linna’s novel The Unknown Soldier? An answer to the primary research question is sought by answering the following secondary research questions: What are the specific internal conflicts like? How do they manifest? What are the most important effects they have on the structure of the narrative? What kinds of groups of characters are possible to form? How could the traditional notion of characters internal conflict, as it is traditionally defined in literary studies, be developed? In this study, internal conflict takes place when…
A cognitive/decision-making model of evaluation for ethical urban and building renewal
2009
Creativity is a strategic factor not only in the production sector, but also for planning, development and management of the city. The physical shape of the city is determined by the plan of buildings and settlements as a whole. Nevertheless, the functional and aesthetical criteria alone are inadequate, if you adopt the view of sustainability. In particular, from biological, ecological and economic points of view, the shape of the sustainable city is the result of a process of creative choice of traditional and innovative forms, materials and technologies that contribute to the quality of buildings and urban ambient. This principle applies a fortiori in cities interested by not-negligible p…
Individuals’ Use of E-Mail Communication Genres in Open Source Software Community Building
2011
The advent of the participative Internet (Web 2.0) sheds a new light on traditional knowledge about communication practices. The role of information and communication technologies seems to be very central in managerial literature, while the human side of the issue is less considered. This paper argues that individuals establish communication genres as semantic templates for accomplishing their communicative projects. Communication genres are codes of default behavioral expectations resulting from recurrent communication actions over the time. By using semantic network analytical techniques, our argument is explored in a particular empirical setting, that is, a virtual community of open sour…
Computational music analysis: from audio transcription to structural and stylistic analyses, everything is tightly intertwined
2012
The aim of this research is to conceive a comprehensive computational model for automated music analysis where a large range of analytical and cognitive rules are combined and the interdependencies observed. Besides the purely scientific interest of a cognitive modeling, this should facilitate the development of tools for computer-aided musicology and interfaces for augmented music listening and discovery. On the structural level, beyond a strict vision based on hierarchical segmentation, a concept of prolongational syntagmatic network is introduced, characterized by general rules and culture-dependent modal specifications. This model explains the syntagmatic role of ornamentation and allow…
Mental preparation of olympic and paralympic swimmers : performance-related cognitions and emotions, and the techniques used to manage them
2020
Purpose: The present study investigated the cognitions and emotions of swimmers, and explored the psychological techniques they use to manage these internal processes prior to and during their best and worst performances. Method: Seven Paralympic and five Olympic male Brazilian swimmers took part in this qualitative study. A semi-structured interview with open-ended questions was conducted to explore how swimmers interpreted and experienced specific competitive events and what they did to manage their internal processes, prior to and during what they considered to be their best and worst performances. The process of data analysis included inductive and deductive approaches. Cognitive therapy…
Human Digital Twins in Acquiring Information About Human Mental Processes for Cognitive Mimetics
2022
Modern information technology makes it possible to redesign the ways people work. In the future, machines can carry out intelligence-requiring tasks, which previously were done by people. It is thus good to develop methodologies for designing intelligent systems. An example of such methods is cognitive mimetics, i.e. imitating human information processing. Today, machines cannot by themselves navigate in archipelagos. However, the fact that people can take care of ship steering and navigation means that there is an information process, which makes it possible to navigate ships. This information process takes place inside the minds of navigating people. If we are able to explicate the inform…
The substantial afterword applies the Zerubevalian perspective to the study of sexuality, traces the development of different perspectives that refer to cognitive sociology and deepens the contribution of the Rutgers School.
