Medicinal plants have been used as a source of remedies since ancient times in Egypt. The present study was designed to investigate the antibacterial activity and the cytotoxicity of the organic extracts from 16 selected medicinal plants of Egypt. The study was also extended to the isolation of the antiproliferative compound jaeschkeanadiol p-hydroxybenzoate (FH-25) from Ferula hermonis. During the analysis of the La (SS-B) autoantigen for catalytic activities an ATP-dependent double-stranded RNA unwinding activity was detected. Both native and recombinant La proteins from different species displayed this activity, which could be inhibited by monospecific anti-La antibodies. La protein was able to melt dsRNA substrates with either two 3'-overhangs or a single 3'- and a 5'-overhang. Double-stranded RNAs with two 5'-overhangs were not unwound, indicating that at least one 3'-overhang is required for unwinding. Sponges (phylum Porifera) represent the evolutionarily oldest metazoans that comprise already a complex immune system and are related to the crown taxa of the protostomians and the deuterostomians. Here, we demonstrate the existence of a tachylectin-related protein in the demosponge Suberites domuncula, termed Suberites lectin. The MAPK pathway was activated in response to lipopolysaccharide treatment of the three-dimensional cell aggregates, the primmorphs; this process was abolished by the monosaccharide D-GlcNAc. Aktualitāte: Antibakteriālā rezistence ir pasaules mēroga problēma, līdz ar to ir svarīgi meklēt jaunas iespējas infekciju ārstēšanai. Potenciāla alternatīva, iespējams, ir ēteriskās eļļas. Mērķis: Noteikt laboratorijā izdalīto E. coli un Klebsiella sugu jutību pret antibiotikām un ēteriskajām eļļām, izmantojot mikrobioloģisko metodi un statistisko apstrādi. Rezultāti: 242 E. coli un 214 Klebsiella paraugu vidū ESBL producē 7,85% E.coli un 11,21% Klebsiella spp. paraugi. Escherichia coli ir plaši izplatīti mikroorganismi, lielākā daļa to celmu ir nekaitīgi, taču daži var izraisīt infekcijas. Galvenā šo infekciju problēma ir strauja mikroorganismu rezistences attīstība pret antibakteriālajiem preparātiem. Darba mērķis ir noteikt un analizēt no ķirurģiskā materiāla izolēto E.coli rezistenci pret antibakteriālajiem preparātiem 2021.gadā. Praktiskajā daļā analizēti kopumā 70 izolāti, atsevišķi 46 no pēcoperāciju brūcēm. Rezultāti liecina, ka izolātos dominē rezistence pret ampicilīnu, savukārt vislabākājā jutība ir pret gentamicīnu, kā arī visi izolāti bija rezistenti pret papildus nosakāmo cefoperazonu, bet jutīgi pret imipenēmu. In this article we analyse autobiographical narrative texts written by university students studying Catalan as an Additional Language at a CEFR (2020) B1 level. The goal is to analyse the formative needs related to the writing of this genre in order to foster metadiscursive reflection in the classroom that will allow students to improve their written output. To this end, we analyzed a corpus of 39 autobiographies at both the macrotextual level (i.e., rhetorical moves) and the microtextual level (i.e., deictic elements which channel the narrative’s organization).
