Spatio-temporal variability of fog-water collection in the eastern Iberian Peninsula: 2003-2012
2019
Abstract Among the different inputs involved in the hydrological system, fog water measured by man-made passive devices is one of the most unknown components, although it could be an additional water resource for specific environmental applications (forest restoration, forest firefighting, etc.). Focusing on the Mediterranean Iberian Peninsula, the aim of this work is to quantify fog-water collected by a 24-fog-stations network spread across three latitudinal sectors with different locations (coastal, pre-littoral and inland), and to determine the most productive sites. Measurements from the network show that distance-to-sea, latitude or elevation differences between stations are factors af…
Linkages Between Gameplay Preferences and Fondness for Game Music
2021
In this paper we explore connections between players’ preferences in gameplay and their desire to listen to game music. Music always takes place in cultural contexts and the activity of music listening is likewise entangled with versatile cultural practices. This is arguably evident in the case of game music since the primary context of encountering it is the active and participatory experience of gameplay. By analyzing survey data (N = 403) collected from the UK, we investigate how contextual preferences in gameplay activities predict fondness for game music. It was found that player preference for Aggression and Exploration are two precedents for liking game music. These findings indicate…
Analysis of the authors’ rights collection frontier using PCA-MDEA: an application to the Valencia region
2002
The aim of this paper is to estimate the authors’ rights collection frontier within the collection zones into which the Valencia Region (Spain) has been divided. To be more exact, a nonparametric frontier technique (Modified Data Envelopment Analysis, MDEA) and the Principal Components Analysis (PCA) are jointly employed to map out an initial approach to the potential authors’ rights collection within this region (as divided into collection zones). The analysis has been carried out both jointly and by majority sectors (performing, musical, and audio-visual arts). Publicaciones Econcult: Área de Investigación en Economía de la Cultura y Turismo. Déjà vu experiences in healthy subjects are unrelated to laboratory tests of recollection and familiarity for word stimuli
2013
Recent neuropsychological and neuroscientific research suggests that people who experience more déjà vu display characteristic patterns in normal recognition memory. We conducted a large individual differences study (n = 206) to test these predictions using recollection and familiarity parameters recovered from a standard memory task. Participants reported déjà vu frequency and a number of its correlates, and completed a recognition memory task analogous to a Remember-Know procedure. The individual difference measures replicated an established correlation between déjà vu frequency and frequency of travel, and recognition performance showed well-established word frequency and accuracy effect…
Interplays Between Corporate Reputation And Media – A Bibliometric Analysis
2020
Abstract As strategic asset – determinant of sustained competitiveness – corporate/firm reputation has a very distinctive feature that sets it apart: although reflection of (better, worse or not at all performed) reputation management at a company’s level, it is rather a “representation” / “perception” – built on a business’s previous behaviors, but more precisely on the ways its different stakeholders have interacted (acknowledged, internalized, resonated) with them – in a (sometimes unconscious) process highly mediated and moderated by the media. Thus, the current study aims to explore the interplays between corporate/firm reputation and media as they are reflected in the scientific liter…
The Application of Machine Learning Algorithms to the Analysis of Electromyographic Patterns From Arthritic Patients
2009
The main aim of our study was to investigate the possibility of applying machine learning techniques to the analysis of electromyographic patterns (EMG) collected from arthritic patients during gait. The EMG recordings were collected from the lower limbs of patients with arthritis and compared with those of healthy subjects (CO) with no musculoskeletal disorder. The study involved subjects suffering from two forms of arthritis, viz, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and hip osteoarthritis (OA). The analysis of the data was plagued by two problems which frequently render the analysis of this type of data extremely difficult. One was the small number of human subjects that could be included in the in…
Enhancement of immunohistochemical staining
1982
The present paper describes two simple procedures which enhance immunohistochemical staining. One is to cover the sections with a plastic film to keep the serum uniformly distributed and minimize its evaporation. Secondly, rocking of the slides has been introduced, causing the serum to flow back and forth under the plastic film. Using this system, it has been possible to test for the effect of mixing on an immunohistochemical reaction (the demonstration of calcitonin in thyroid C cells). It has been found that mixing definitely enhances the reaction during the first 8 h. No effect of serum volume was observed.

The Harvest Smart PRePTMsystem versus the Friadent-Schütze platelet-rich plasma kit
2003
An important reason to improve methods for isolating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the potential use of autogenous platelet growth factors. In addition to the Curasan PRP kit (Curasan, Kleinostheim, Germany) and the platelet concentrated collection system (PCCSTM) system, two new methods for the preparation of PRP by the surgeon are now available. This study compared the suitability of these new methods for the preparation of PRP. Whole blood was drawn from 54 healthy donors (33 men and 21 women) aged 23-79 years (38.0 +/- 17.7 years). PRP was prepared from each donor's blood using both the Smart PRePTM system (Harvest Technologies Corporation, Munich, Germany) and the Friadent-Schutze meth…
