OLAP Personalization with User-Describing Profiles
2010
In this paper we have highlighted five existing approaches for introducing personalization in OLAP: preference constructors, dynamic personalization, visual OLAP, recommendations with user session analysis and recommendations with user profile analysis and have analyzed research papers within these directions. We have pointed out applicability of personalization to OLAP schema elements in these approaches. The comparative analysis has been made in order to highlight a certain personalization approach. A new method has been proposed, which provides exhaustive description of interaction between user and data warehouse, using the concept of Zachman Framework [1, 2], according to which a set of…
Platform for efficient and secure data collection and exploitation in intelligent vehicular networks
2016
Nowadays, automotive area is witnessing a tremendous evolution due to the increasing growth in communication technologies, environmental sensing & perception aptitudes, and storage & processing capacities that we can find in recent vehicles. Indeed, a car is being a kind of intelligent mobile agent able to perceive its environment, sense and process data using on-board systems and interact with other vehicles or existing infrastructure. These advancements stimulate the development of several kinds of applications to enhance driving safety and efficiency and make traveling more comfortable. However, developing such advanced applications relies heavily on the quality of the data and therefore…
Exploring the relationship between big data analytics capability and competitive performance : The mediating roles of dynamic and operational capabil…
2020
A central question for information systems (IS) researchers and practitioners is if, and how, big data can help attain a competitive advantage. To address this question, this study draws on the resource-based view, dynamic capabilities view, and on recent literature on big data analytics, and examines the indirect relationship between a firm’s big data analytics capability (BDAC) and competitive performance. The study extends existing research by proposing that BDACs enable firms to generate insight that can help strengthen their dynamic capabilities, which, in turn, positively impact marketing and technological capabilities. To test our proposed research model, we used survey data from 202…
Uzņēmuma SIA "GELVORA" stratēģiskās attīstības virzieni.
2016
On the use and value of new media and how medical students assess their effectiveness in learning anatomy.
2004
The new media have become widely used tools in medical instruction today. But are they regarded as useful by students training to become medical doctors? What are students' most important criteria for a good CD-ROM or valuable Internet resources? To answer these questions, and to obtain definite data on the use of new media, we distributed a questionnaire to preclinical medical and dental students of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. The evaluation of 397 questionnaires demonstrates that 94.9% of the students use personal computers; 91.6% of the 85.8% who own a computer have access to the Internet. The Internet is used at least once a week by 70.1% of students for private…
Positive Turn in Elder-Care Workers' Views Toward Telecare Robots.
2022
AbstractRobots have been slowly but steadily introduced to welfare sectors. Our previous observations based on a large-scale survey study on Finnish elder-care workers in 2016 showed that while robots were perceived to be useful in certain telecare tasks, using robots may also prove to be incompatible with the care workers’ personal values. The current study presents the second wave of the survey data from 2020, with the same respondents (N = 190), and shows how these views have changed for the positive, including higher expectations of telecare robotization and decreased concerns over care robots’ compatibility with personal values. In a longitudinal analysis (Phase 1), the positive change…
Parents' experiences of neonatal transfer. A meta-study of qualitative research 2000-2017.
2018
Transfers of critically ill neonates are frequent phenomena. Even though parents’ participation is regarded as crucial in neonatal care, a transfer often means that parents and neonates are separated. A systematic review of the parents’ experiences of neonatal transfer is lacking. This paper describes a meta-study addressing qualitative research about parents’ experiences of neonatal transfer. Through deconstruction and reflections of theories, methods and empirical data, the aim was to achieve a deeper understanding of theoretical, empirical, contextual, historical and methodological issues of qualitative studies concerning parents’ experiences of neonatal transfer over the course of this …
Sector reputation and public organisations
2008
PurposeEconomic pressures and rising stakeholder expectations have led public sector organisations to measure their reputation. The paper aims to highlight the importance of reputation for the public sector, define sector reputation and report findings on a quantitative study of sector reputations of four different types of Finnish public sector organisations.Design/methodology/approachInspired by stakeholder theory and the value of organisational reputation, a quantitative survey of stakeholder assessments on reputation was carried out in the 12 organisations from the field of the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in 2003. The organisations represented four sectors: research, a…
Is money where the fun ends? Material interests and individuals’ preference for direct democracy
2020
Abstract Are people’s attitudes towards referendums as a decision-making procedure predominantly driven by their material self-interest, or do individuals also value direct democracy as such, regardless of the material payoffs associated with anticipated policy outcomes? To answer this question, we use a survey data set that offers information on respondents’ support for referendums as a procedure to decide on tax policy, their income levels, socio-economic characteristics, and, most importantly, their expectation about the majority’s support for higher taxes. We find that the support of low-income individuals for referendums increases substantially if they expect a clear population majorit…
Improved route planning and scheduling of waste collection and transport
2006
The collection of waste is a highly visible and important municipal service that involves large expenditures. Waste collection problems are, however, one of the most difficult operational problems to solve. This paper describes the optimization of vehicle routes and schedules for collecting municipal solid waste in Eastern Finland. The solutions are generated by a recently developed guided variable neighborhood thresholding metaheuristic that is adapted to solve real-life waste collection problems. Several implementation approaches to speed up the method and cut down the memory usage are discussed. A case study on the waste collection in two regions of Eastern Finland demonstrates that sign…
