A Colorimetric Probe for the Selective Detection of Norepinephrine Based on a Double Molecular Recognition with Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles
2019
[EN] A simple colorimetric probe for the selective and sensitive detection of neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE), an important biomarker in the detection of tumors such as pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma, is described. The sensing strategy is based on the use of spherical gold nanoparticles functionalized with benzaldehyde and boronic acid-terminated moieties. A double molecular recognition involving on one hand the aromatic aldehyde and the aminoalcohol group of NE, and on the other hand the boronic acid and the catechol moiety of the neurotransmitter, results in analyte triggered aggregation of the gold nanoparticles, leading to a bathochromic shift of the SPR band in the UV-vis spec…
Colorimetric sensing of anions by a neutral biphenyl based amide receptor
2007
A new colorimetric sensor for fluoride is described. Compound 1 shows an open structure and its behaviour is compared with that of two related closed compounds 2 and 3. In all cases, the red colour developed in the presence of fluoride can be related to deprotonation processes, however ligand 1 gives rise to a faster colour change than 2 or 3 because of its higher flexibility. Other halides as well as carboxylates have been studied and the stoichiometry and complexation constants for the corresponding ligands have been determined. Colorimetric Characterization of Mobile Devices for Vision Applications
2015
Purpose: Available applications for vision testing in mobile devices usually do not include detailed setup instructions, sacrificing rigor to obtain portability and ease of use. In particular, colorimetric characterization processes are generally obviated. We show that different mobile devices differ also in colorimetric profile and that those differences limit the range of applications for which they are most adequate. Methods: The color reproduction characteristics of four mobile devices, two smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 4s) and two tablets (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, iPad 4), have been evaluated using two procedures: 3D LUT (Look Up Table) and a linear model assuming primary constan…
Optical recognition and removal of Hg(II) using a new self-chemosensor based on a modified amino-functionalized Al-MOF
2017
Abstract We developed a simple self-chemical optical sensor for the monitoring and removal of ultra-trace levels of Hg(II) from aqueous media. The development of this sensor was based on the covalent attachment of amino-functionalized aluminum-based MOF particles with ninhydrin. The new sensor is densely coated with a chelating ligand to permit an ultra-fast, selective, pH-dependent visualization for removal of Hg(II) with detection limit (LOD∼0.494 μg L−1). Monitoring was accomplished via both a colorimetric signal visible to the naked eye as well as UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. Digital image-based colorimetric analysis has also used as a semi-quantitative analysis for determination the…
Resorcinol Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles for Formaldehyde Colorimetric Detection
2019
[EN] Gold nanoparticles functionalized with resorcinol moieties have been prepared and used for detecting formaldehyde both in solution and gas phases. The detection mechanism is based on the color change of the probe upon the aggregation of the nanoparticles induced by the polymerization of the resorcinol moieties in the presence of formaldehyde. A limit of detection of 0.5 ppm in solution has been determined. The probe can be deployed for the detection of formaldehyde emissions from composite wood boards.
A Colorimetric Membrane-Based Sensor with Improved Selectivity towards Amphetamine
2021
Due to their simplicity, speed and low cost, chemical spot tests are increasingly demanded for the presumptive identification of illicit drugs in a variety of contexts such as point-of-care assistance or prosecution of drug trafficking. However, most of the colorimetric reactions used in these tests are, at best, drug class selective. Therefore, the development of tests based on chemical reactions with improved discrimination power is of great interest. In this work, we propose a new colorimetric assay for amphetamine (AMP) based on its reaction with solutions of alkaline gold bromide to form an insoluble yellow–orange derivative. The resulting suspensions are then filtered onto nylon membr…

Activation of a caspase-3-independent mode of cell death associated with lysosomal destabilization in cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells…
2008
International audience; Purpose: To characterize the possible cytotoxic effects of oxysterols (7-hydroxycholesterol (7-OH), 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-OH)) in human retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) and to detail the relationships between some of these effects. Methods: ARPE-19 cells were treated with 7-OH and 25-OH. Cell viability was measured with the MTT assay. Membrane permeability, mitochondrial potential, and lysosomal integrity were measured by flow cytometry with propidium iodide, DiOC6(3), and acridine orange, respectively. Cell death was characterized by staining with Hoechst 33342, transmission electron microscopy, and analysis of the DNA fragmentation pattern. Caspase ac…

Quantitative colorimetric-imaging analysis of nickel in iron meteorites.
2011
A quantitative analytical imaging approach for determining the nickel content of metallic meteorites is proposed. The approach uses a digital image of a series of standard solutions of the nickel-dimethylglyoxime coloured chelate and a meteorite sample solution subjected to the same treatment as the nickel standards for quantitation. The image is processed with suitable software to assign a colour-dependent numerical value (analytical signal) to each standard. Such a value is directly proportional to the analyte concentration, which facilitates construction of a calibration graph where the value for the unknown sample can be interpolated to calculate the nickel content of the meteorite. The…
