Stationarity Test for Wireless Communication Channels

In this article, we propose a new test to determine the intervals of stationarity for wireless communication channels. The intervals of stationarity are identified by comparing the delay power spectral density (PSD) estimated at different time instances. The performance of the proposed stationarity test has been evaluated based on the synthetic data generated using a channel simulator. The analysis of the stationarity intervals for two radio communication channels measured in different propagation scenarios reveals that the number and the length of the stationarity intervals decrease as the dimensions of the channel matrix increase.

NOAA-AVHRR Orbital Drift Correction From Solar Zenithal Angle Data

This paper presents a new method for NOAA's (National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration) orbital drift correction. This method is pixel-based, and in opposition with most methods previously developed, does not need explicit knowledge of land cover. This method is applied to AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) channel information, and relies only on the additional knowledge of solar zenithal angle (SZA) and acquisition date information. Electrical Pumping of Potassium Ions Against an External Concentration Gradient in a Biological Ion Channel

We show experimentally and theoretically that significant currents can be obtained with a biological ion channel, the OmpF porin of Escherichia coli, using zero-average potentials as driving forces. The channel rectifying properties can be used to pump potassium ions against an external concentration gradient under asymmetric pH conditions. The results are discussed in terms of the ionic selectivity and rectification ratio of the channel. The physical concepts involved may be applied to separation processes with synthetic nanopores and to bioelectrical phenomena. (C) 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Joint LMMSE equalizer for HSDPA in full-rate space time transmit diversity schemes

This contribution presents a joint linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) equalizer for full-rate space-time transmit diversity multi-code schemes based on W-CDMA, featuring two and four transmit antennas. Specifically, high-rate, high load systems are targeted, in order to analyze the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) of 3GPP Release 6. We derive an equivalent transmission scheme to equalize the received sufficient statistic in a single stage. To reduce the effects of multipath and multiuser interference, and to provide spatial and frequency diversity at the receiver, an LMMSE equalizer is employed. An improved iterative nonlinear least square approximation method for the design of measurement-based wideband mobile radio channel simulators

This paper deals with the design of measurement-based simulation models for wideband single-input single-output (SISO) mobile radio channels. We present an improved version of the iterative nonlinear least square approximation (INLSA) method for computing the parameters of measurement-based simulation models. The proposed method aims to fit the temporal-frequency correlation function (TFCF) of the simulation model to that of the measured channel. In this article we refer to the market of vehicular networks, where groups of customers located in the same public vehicle (e.g., a train or bus) connect to a terrestrial network through a wireless/satellite backbone link. To ensure quality of service (QoS) for heterogeneous traffic in IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a challenging task since no traffic prioritization mechanism is defined in such WSNs. In this paper, we propose two priority-oriented multicast transmission schemes to provide QoS for heterogeneous traffic in WSNs. Cooperative communication design with distributed code allocation in a clustered network

A major challenge for cooperative communication in distributed networks is to coordinate relay transmissions without introducing too much overhead. Targeting a clustered network, we propose a novel cooperative communication scheme including channel quality based relay selection and distributed space-time code allocation in this paper. Both analysis and simulations are carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed cooperative scheme, in terms of packet delivery rate, throughput and energy efficiency, under different channel conditions and network density.
