2019
This article describes the strategies implemented in the improvement of the processes in the management of information and communication technology (ICT) on the “Universidad Nacional de Loja” carried out by the “Unidad de Telecomunicaciones e Informacion” (UTI). First, the analysis of the processes carried out in the management of ICT is narrated. Subsequently, the experiences and best practices of information technology management implemented are described, considering the processes recommended by the Technology Infrastructure Library of Information (ITIL v3). Universal Design of ICT for Emergency Management
2018
The primary objectives of this article are to give a systematic overview of the current state of the emerging research field of Universal Design of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Emergency Management, and to highlight high-impact research opportunities to ensure that the increasing introduction of ICT in Emergency Management can contribute to removing barriers instead of adding more barriers, in particular for the elderly and people with disabilities. A systematic review on various literature with respect to Universal Design, ICT and Emergency Management between 2008 to 2018 was employed in this study, and reviewed systematically using a predefined framework. The ultimat…
A Critical Reflection on Relationship between ICT and Change Management in Enhancing Teaching and Learning Performances
2019
Abstract Numerous studies have pointed out direct positive impacts of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on education quality. From just tool, ICT is being viewed in itself as quality or as catalyst for quality improvement. These findings have led universities worldwide to adopt ICT regardless of uncertainties. Consequently, not all of them succeeded. Proofs from cases around the world show that ICT produces positive impact only in the environment that fits. Such environment is fostered by an effective change management approach. The main aim of this paper is therefore to present the symbiotic relationship between ICT and change management, zeroing on how changes are managed to atta…
A Novel Framework of an Expert System by integrating Capability Approach and BRB to Evaluate E-Government Services
2015
Capability approach is hard to operationalize and capabilities are sometimes difficult to reduce into the individual level. We describe our approach to solve these problems paired with an adequate ICT infrastructure and believe that the impact of concrete eGovernment services will become more visible and available. Citizens can inspect it, professionals can target their re-engineering on failure cases, learn from best cases, and researchers can compare different types of eGovernment. The solving of operationalisation will also strengthen the capability approach, by extending its scope from macro theory towards more easy application on the institutional and organizational levels.
Developing teachers' professional expertise through collaboration in an innovative ICT‐based learning environment
2004
Recent research emphasizes the context‐specific nature of professional knowledge and expertise, implying that developing novel practices in authentic environments is a prerequisite for teachers' professional development. The aim of this study was to find out how teachers develop their practical knowledge and expertise through shared planning and to evaluate an innovative learning project carried out in an ICT‐based environment. Two secondary school teachers of history participated in this study. The data were gathered using a multi‐methodological approach (video recordings, interviews and questionnaires). The results are described in terms of the teachers' shared experiences and their incre…
The Effectiveness of a Psycho-educational App to Reduce Sexist Attitudes in Adolescents
2019
Abstract The present study evaluates the effectiveness of an intervention using a mobile app game aimed at reducing sexism in adolescents. A quasiexperimental pretest–posttest study is executed with intervention and control groups. The participants are 369 secondary school students from the province of Valencia, of whom 196 are assigned to intervention and 173 to control group. Hostile and benevolent sexism are assessed at both points in time using theory of ambivalent sexism. The two hours’ intervention involved explaining the game's dynamic, implementation and use. The results of applying the programme are evaluated of the two dimensions of sexism in two time periods. Intervention with th…

Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research based on a structured questionnaire and using a personal survey method was developed. Surveys were conducted on 386 guests from Spanish hotels. Causal methodology by testing structural equation model was applied. Findings Significant relationships are obtained in the sequence “ICT use perception – satisfaction with ICT – overall satisfaction with the hotel – dimensions of loyalty” and the mediatin…
Privacy invasions
2006
Nowhere has technological progress been as dramatic as in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). Citizens of the developed world now live in an environment in which access to electronic information and communication is nearly ubiquitous—and we rely heavily on being surrounded by this technology. In fact, it is so omnipresent that we only recognize our dependence on ICT when a network server or a communications system fails, leaving us cut off from cyberspace. > …computers, mobile telephones, personal digital assistants, music players and all other types of electronic gadgets are further shrinking in size, and we will soon wear them as we do clothes or jewellery… The fi…
