Legislative provisions in context: a linguistic approach

The paper takes into consideration legislative provisions from a linguistic point of view. It applies tests of language in a number of texts belonging to the common law drafting practice to ascertain a loss of conceptual focus by legislative drafters and concludes that linguistics can provide a method by which drafters can assess the effectiveness of their draft.

Il Reciprocal Teaching (RT) è una pratica di apprendimento cooperativo implementata con successo per sostenere e facilitare la comprensione del testo scritto. Family Register in British English: The First Approach to its Systematic Study

The present study looks into an unexplored area of research as it is the family register. An alternative to recording family conversations is the use of popular TV series, as their success lies in the audience s identification with their characters and their communicative style. This work analyses two highly popular series in UK. The results suggest that this register has its own communicative richness and internal variation, the knowledge of which may be of great help for students and professionals travelling to English-speaking countries and living or relating with native speakers in family environments.

Questo saggio vuole essere una testimonianza dell’importanza culturale e cognitiva degli archivi (del progetto) intesi come patrimonio pubblico. L’azione di re-immaginarli può costituire un veicolo per la loro conoscenza? Con l’analisi di un caso-studio di un’abitazione non realizzata di un architetto del Novecento come Giuseppe Samonà si prova a verificare l’efficacia degli strumenti digitali per l’interpretazione dell’architettura come mezzi per l’implementazione comunicativa di un archivio.

The aim of this article is to approach the cusine recipe from a strictly semiotic point of view by first explaining the relation between food and language and then submitting the speech of the recipe to an analysis that throws light on the mechanisms of its discursive functioning. This article aims also to instrcut in a profound way the question of the many relationships, both constitutive and hidden, between culinary practices and language. Particular attention will be paid to the question of the relationship between historical and oral cooking recipes as well as to the communicative pact established by the cooking recipe.

Jürgen Habermas’ recent work is focused on the relationship between reason and faith in what he suggest that we should name post-secular society. Habermas argues that traditional religions such as Christianity can have semantic contents very useful to uphold a moral motivation in order to contrast the instrumental reason of the globalized markets. I will try to show that these recent developments of Habermas’ theories risk to conflict with some elements of his previous approach.
