Started on 17th August 1977 the Opole Walking Pilgrimage to Jasna Góra was a result of many centuries oftradition of dévotion to Our Lady ofCzęstochowa in the Opole region. After érection ofthe apostolic administration ofthe Opole Silesia in 1945 and Opole diocese 27 years later preparing the whole-diocese pilgrimage was impossible because oftwo factors: political context ofthe PPL and reluctance of bishop Franciszek Jop to provoke the government unfavourable towards the Church. The study presents Transylvania as a space of ethnic-religious tolerance, having as a case studythe image of the town Făgăraș, as depicted in Eginald Schlattner’s novels. This space appearsas one of a heavenly nuance, based on a long tradition of coexistence of the members ofdifferent ethnic groups and religions. However, the inter-war and post-war period means theemergence of new challenges posed by the confrontation with the harmful effects of the twoideologies: Nazism and Communism. The last two decades have witnessed an intensified academic interest in a potential rapprochement between Postcolonial Studies and Postcommunist Studies, the former a firmly established discipline in global academia, while the existence of the latter as a discipline in its own right is still debatable. Oświata w stalinowskim Związku Sowieckim była jednym z najważniejszych narzędzi indoktrynacji obywateli wszystkich narodowości. Ponad 1,2 min. ’Civilising’ the Transitional Generation: The Politics of Civic Education in Post-Communist Romania

Abstract The paper examines the introduction of civic education in post-communist Romania as an educational means of civilising in a democratic ethos the children of the transition. Particularly close analytical attention is paid to a) the political context that shaped the decision to introduce civic education, b) the radical changes in both content and end purpose of civics brought about by educational policies adopted for accelerating the country’s efforts of integrating into the Euro-Atlantic structures (NATO and the European Union), and c) the actual consequences that these educational policies betting on civics have had on the civic values expressed by Romanian teenagers.
