Do organizational variables influence satisfaction with nursing student practices?

2021

Abstract Clinical practices are a vital component in the education of registered nursing students. This study analyzed the influence of organizational variables on satisfaction with clinical practices. A cross-sectional study design involved 572 registered nursing students. Two statistical methodologies, hierarchical regression models and qualitative comparative analysis of diffuse sets, were used for data analysis. In the hierarchical regression models the number of students supervised predicted satisfaction with clinical educator (β = -.22; p ≤ .001), environment (β = -.13; p ≤ .05) and overall satisfaction (β = -.15; p ≤ .05). However, in the qualitative comparative analysis, the type of…

Analysing innovation in museums through qualitative comparative analysis

2019

[EN] The aim of this paper is to analyse innovation in the processes undertaken by museums in the conservation and restoration of artworks. Information from 90 conservation and restoration departments from museums in 43 countries was analysed using qualitative comparative analysis. Two theoretical concepts - knowledge bases (analytical, synthetic, symbolic) and modes of innovations (Science, Technology and Innovation; Doing, Using, and Interacting) - were used to define necessary and sufficient conditions which explain innovation in artwork restoration. Two important results were obtained from the analysis. The first indicated that innovation was explained by the combination of symbolic and…

A comparative analysis on Finnish and Korean high school English textbooks in the perspective of communicative language teaching

2016

English textbooks are a key resource for English courses in both Finnish and Korean high schools. The present study aims to compare the similarities and differences of Finnish and Korean high school English textbooks and analyze them from the perspective of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on which English textbooks of both countries are theoretically based. Two English textbooks have been selected from each country for this research. One textbook is targeted for 10th grade and the other for 11th grade. The textbooks have been analyzed according to six dimensions: textbook structure, vocabulary, language forms, topics and cultural backgrounds, communicative functions, and activities fo…

Identifying Resilient and Non-Resilient Labour Conditions in Europe Using Qualitative Comparative Analysis

2016

Based on the concept of labour market resilience, this paper is aimed to determine the combination of initial conditions behind resilient and non-resilient labour markets after the financial crisis in 2008 in Europe. We start from the assumption that some initial conditions in 2007 are crucial to achieve a specific labour result when a shock appears. In this sense, the effect of temporary employment in cyclical sectors, labour market flexibility, the level of education among the workforce, and the expenditure on Labour Market Policies (LMP) have been tested using crisp-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (csQCA) in 25 European countries. Whilst our results do not explain labour market resi…

To be or not to be an inclusive teacher: Are empathy and social dominance relevant factors to positive attitudes towards inclusive education?

2019

Positive inclusive teacher attitudes are a key factor in achieving inclusive education due to the many benefits they generate for schools and social contexts. Studies have focused on analysing which variables may promote positive attitudes. The objective of this study was to analyse the predictive power of sociodemographic variables, empathy (cognitive and emotional), and social dominance orientation (social dominance and opposition to equality) on teachers’ attitudes, sentiments, and concerns about inclusion by comparing linear relationship models and models based on fuzzy-set comparative qualitative analysis. The sample consisted of 268 teachers of different educational levels aged betwee…

Corporate Governance Configurations and Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure: Qualitative Comparative Analysis of Audit Committee and Board cha…

2020

[EN] Drawing on the complexity theory and responding to the recent calls to use such creative methods that mix between a quantitative and qualitative approach. Therefore, this study fills the literature gap, adding novelties, showing evidence from the unexplored (or underexplored) European context and, consequently, shedding light to inconclusive results in previous research concerning the effect of audit committee (AC) and board characteristics on corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure by applying a novel research methodology: the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis. The data were collected from Eikon database for a sample of the top 69 non¿financial European companies (ba…

Chutzpadik advertising and its effectiveness: Four studies of agencies and audiences

2021

Abstract The creation of advertisements that attract immediate attention and simultaneously provoke thoughts and stimulate ongoing discussions is challenging. Hence, advertisers increasingly use Chutzpadik advertising, which we define as “radical advertising messaging that purposefully transgresses social norms and proscribed topics”. We conduct four studies to identify the dimensions and evaluate the effectiveness of Chutzpadik advertising. The first two studies involve interviews with 12 managers of advertising agencies and 22 members of the Israeli general public (audience members). The interviews reveal Chutzpadik advertising’s dimensions are norm violation, novelty, and audacity. In tw…

Exploring the viability of equity crowdfunding as a fundraising instrument: A configurational analysis of contingency factors that lead to crowdfundi…

2020

Abstract With the growth in the use of crowdfunding platforms for fundraising, analysis of the key factors associated with successful crowdfunding has emerged as an interesting and oft-researched topic. Nonetheless, the equity crowdfunding market is still relatively under researched. The purpose of this paper is to explore how contingency factors combine and causally connect in leading to possible success or failure in equity crowdfunding rounds. To reach this goal, a configurational approach was chosen. Qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) is a suitable method for this topic because of its ability to identify and assess different combinations of conditions that explain certain outcomes. …
