Structured methodology for selection of maintenance key performance indicators: Application to an oil refinery plant

The novel contribution of the work is the proposal of a structured multi-step methodology that may support the Decision Maker (DM) in the measurement of maintenance performance by means of Maintenance Key Performance Indicators (MKPIs). To this aim, a multi-level hierarchical framework able to synthesize the most meaningful aspects affecting the maintenance results is designed. Then, MKPIs are selected from the literature, assigned to the hierarchical framework and ranked by an Analytic Hierarchy Process-based approach with incomplete comparison matrices. Various decision-making techniques rely on pairwise comparisons (PCs) between the involved elements. Traditionally, PCs are provided by experts or relevant actors, and compiled into pairwise comparison matrices (PCMs). In highly complex problems, the number of elements to be compared may be very large. One of the issues limiting PC applicability to large-scale decision problems is the so-called curse of dimensionality, that is, many PCs need to be elicited from an actor, or built from a body of information. Fast Fourier Transform Filtering for Bilateral Mammography Comparison

Bilateral Asymmetry is one of the breast abnormalities that may indicate a cancer in early stage. The computer methods for the bilateral subtraction developed up to now show the problem of large false positives number because the alignment defects. On the other hand the computer methods using FFT approach suffer of a low S/N ratio to distinguish massive lesions from background. In this paper a method (FFT-RF-BMC) is presented to enhanche the bilateral asymmetry using a FFT to detect massive lesions through a Recursive Filtering.
Abelian antipowers in infinite words

Abstract An abelian antipower of order k (or simply an abelian k-antipower) is a concatenation of k consecutive words of the same length having pairwise distinct Parikh vectors. This definition generalizes to the abelian setting the notion of a k-antipower, as introduced in Fici et al. (2018) [7] , that is a concatenation of k pairwise distinct words of the same length. We aim to study whether a word contains abelian k-antipowers for arbitrarily large k. S. Holub proved that all paperfolding words contain abelian powers of every order (Holub, 2013 [8] ). We show that they also contain abelian antipowers of every order.
Comparative Reasoning for Intelligent Agents

We demonstrate new comparative reasoning abilities of NARS, a formal model of intelligence, which enable the asymmetric comparison of perceivable quantifiable attributes of objects using rela- tions. These new abilities are implemented by extending NAL with addi- tional inference rules. We demonstrate the new capabilities in a bottle- picking experiment on a mobile robot running ONA, an implementation of NARS.

For Greek lexicographers, the verb 'maschalisthenai', which appears only in Aeschylus and Sophocles, refers to certain details of the murder of Agamemnon by his wife Clytemnestra.The ancient tradition on "maschalismos" has become in the modern age a bone of contention among scholars around the study of Greek religion, in particular concerning the relationship with death and the underworld. This contribution examines the different interpretations of "maschalismos" proposed by Erwin Rohde and Raffaele Pettazzoni and their different perspectives on the comparison.

Nella fiaba illustrata di Dino Buzzati La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia (1945) e nella sua trasposizione filmica ad opera di Lorenzo Mattotti (2019) l’ambientazione siciliana è determinante. In entrambi i casi la Sicilia è un’isola con un grande vulcano – trasfigurata in un ambiente fantastico o riscritta secondo alcuni stereotipi – che i due autori utilizzano con accezioni diverse nella costituzione dell’ecosistema delle loro narrazioni. This article examines the role of language in the works of the German-Japanese author Yoko Tawada. For the analysis three works in which the writer deals with the languages Japanese and German will be considered: ›Talisman‹, ›Überseezungen‹, and ›Akzentfrei‹. Within the analysis the great imagination of Tawada will be underlined: She invents new words, new linguistic associations and surreal correspondences between signs and images. The world of the writer is a world between reality and fantasy and it must be observed with new eyes in order to be understood.
