Electronic Structure Modulation in an Exceptionally Stable Non-Heme Nitrosyl Iron(II) Spin-Crossover Complex

The highly stable nitrosyl iron(II) mononuclear complex [Fe(bztpen)(NO)](PF6)(2) (bztpen=N-benzyl-N,N',N'-tris(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine) displays an S=1/2 S=3/2 spin crossover (SCO) behavior (T-1/2=370 K, Delta H= 12.48 kJmol(-1), Delta S=33 JK(-1) mol(-1)) stemming from strong magnetic coupling between the NO radical (S=1/2) and thermally interconverted (S=0 S=2) ferrous spin states. [EN] The iron(II) compounds of formulae [Fe(DPQ)2(NCS)2]·CO(CH)3)2(DPQ = 2,3-bis-(2¿-pyridyl)-quinoxaline) (1) and [Fe(ABPT)2-(NCX)2] (ABPT = 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole) X = S (2) and Se (3) were synthesized and the crystal structure of 1 determined by X-ray diffraction methods. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system . The structure is made up of discrete [Fe(DPQ)2(NCS)2] units. Each metal atom is in a distorted FeN6 octahedral environment, the Fe¿N bonds ranging from 2.013(8) Å to 2.425(8) Å. Phase diagrams calculated for flowing polymer solutions: spinodal and three phase conditions

Spinodal lines and critical points (CPs) are calculated for flowing solutions of polystyrene in trans-decalin. Three types of CPs can be distinguished: The first consists of stable CPs (ordinary critical line) and originates from the CP of the quiescent system. The other two CPs are bound to shear. Additional stable CPs (extraordinary critical line) result for higher polymer concentrations and unstable CPs for intermediate concentrations. Ordinary and unstable critical line merge in a heterogeneous double CP. The coexistence of three phases in the flowing system (eulytic points) comes to an end as two of them merge upon an increase in shear rate at a critical end point.

A newly established population of the fouling polychaete Spirobranchus cf. tetraceros is reported from the western Mediterranean (Valencia Port). Despite previous intensive surveys, this is the first record for the taxon in the Iberian Peninsula. Molecular analyses revealed that S. cf. tetraceros from Valencia are genetically identical to specimens from Heraklion, Crete, but different from those collected in the Red Sea and S. tetraceros sensu stricto from the type locality in Australia. Mediterranean and Red Sea S. cf. tetraceros form a well-supported monophyletic clade but are clearly distinct from New South Wales specimens of S. tetraceros. Wavelet Frames Generated by Spline Based p-Filter Banks

This chapter presents a design scheme to generate tight and so-called semi-tight frames in the space of discrete-time periodic signals. The frames originate from oversampled perfect reconstruction periodic filter banks. The filter banks are derived from discrete-time and discrete periodic splines. Each filter bank comprises one linear phase low-pass filter (in most cases interpolating) and one high-pass filter, whose magnitude response mirrors that of a low-pass filter. In addition, these filter banks comprise a number of band-pass filters. This chapter presents robust methods, which refine the algorithms, in Sect. 7.2, for inversion of the heat equations. The idea behind the algorithms is to solve the inversion problem separately in different frequency bands. This is achieved by using spline wavelet packets. The solutions that minimize some parameterized quadratic functionals, are derived as linear combinations of the wavelet packets. Choice of parameters, which is performed automatically, determines the trade-off between the solution regularity and the initial data approximation. Abstract Sporadic thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA) and dissections are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, especially in those older than 65 years. The presentation of TAA is varied and often silent.
