Protonation and oxidation chemistry of a pentaethylcyclopentadienyl-containing molybdenum(IV) trihydride complex

2000

International audience; Compound CpEtMoCl4 (CpEt=η5-C5Et5) (1) can be transformed into CpEtMoH3(dppe) (2) and CpEtMoD3(dppe) (2-d3) [dppe=1,2-(diphenylphosphino)ethane] by reaction with LiAlX4 (X=H and D, respectively). The protonation and oxidation studies of these two compounds, in comparison with previously reported studies on (C5Me5) analogs, show important differences that may be attributed to a kinetic stabilization of the products, which is steric in nature. Protonation of 2 with HBF4 in acetonitrile affords [CpEtMoH4(dppe)]+ (3), which only slowly decomposes to [CpEtMoH2(MeCN)(dppe)]+ (4). Further protonation of the latter affords the monohydride species [Cp*MoH(dppe)(MeCN)2]2+ in t…

Can Green Dimethyl Carbonate Synthesis be More Effective? A Catalyst Recycling Study Benefiting from Experimental Kinetics and DFT Modeling

2014

Dibutyldimethoxystannanes are known to catalyze the reaction between carbon dioxide and methanol leading to dimethyl carbonate. Despite similarities between din-butyl- and ditert-butyldimethoxystannane, the recycled complexes have different structural features. In the din-butyl series, a decatin(IV) complex has been characterized and is less active than the stannane precursor. Kinetic experiments likely indicate that all the tin centers are not active, which is confirmed in comparing with the related dinuclear 1,3-dimethoxytetran-butyldistannoxane complex. In the ditert-butyl series, the tritin(IV) complex isolated upon recycling features the steric effect of bulky tBu ancillary ligands. In…

Evidence that steric factors modulate reactivity of tautomeric iron-oxo species in stereospecific alkane C-H hydroxylation

2014

A new iron complex mediates stereospecific hydroxylation of alkyl C-H bonds with hydrogen peroxide, exhibiting excellent efficiency. Isotope labelling studies provide evidence that the relative reactivity of tautomerically related oxo-iron species responsible for the C-H hydroxylation reaction is dominated by steric factors This work has been supported by the European Union (the Erasmus Mundus program), the International Research Training Group Metal Sites in Biomolecules: Structures, Regulation and Mechanisms (www.biometals.eu), and COST Action CM1003. Steric vs. electronic stereocontrol in syndio- or iso-selective ROP of functional chiral β-lactones mediated by achiral yttrium-bisphenolate complexes

2018

International audience; Origins of stereoselectivity in ROP of racemic chiral cyclic esters promoted by achiral yttrium complexes, resulting in the formation of highly heterotactic polylactide, and highly syndiotactic or, more uniquely, highly isotactic poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)s, are discussed. A close interplay between the nature of the cyclic ester, most particularly of the exocyclic functional chain installed on the chiral center of β-lactones, and the ortho-substituents installed on the phenolate rings of the ligand, results in various determining secondary interactions of steric and also electronic nature.

Unique distal size selectivity with a digold catalyst during alkyne homocoupling

2015

Metal-catalysed chemical reactions are often controlled by steric hindrance around the metal atom and it is rare that substituents far away of the reaction site could be differentiated during reaction, particularly if they are simple alkyl groups. Here we show that a gold catalyst is able to discriminate between linear carbon alkynes with 10 or 12 atoms in the chain during the oxidative homocoupling of alkynes: the former is fully reactive and the latter is practically unreactive. We present experimental evidences, which support that the distal size selectivity occurs by the impossibility of transmetallating two long alkyl chains in an A-framed, mixed-valence digold (I, III) acetylide compl…

Gold(I) Complexes of Ferrocenyl Polyphosphines: Aurophilic Gold Chloride Formation and Phosphine-Concerted Shuttling of a Dinuclear [ClAu···AuCl] Fra…

2016

International audience; A smart steric control of the metallocene backbone in bis- and poly(phosphino)ferrocene ligands favors intramolecular aurophilic interactions between [AuCl] fragments in polynuclear gold(I) complexes. We synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis mono-, di-, and polynuclear gold complexes of constrained ferrocenyl diphosphines, which bear either bulky tert-butyl groups or more flexible siloxane substituents at the cyclopentadienyl rings. The complexes meso-1,1'-bis-(diphenylphosphino)-3,3'-di-tert-butylferrocene (4-m), rac-1,1'-bis[bis-(5-methy1-2-furyl)phosphino]-3,3'-di-tert-butyfferrocene (5-r), and rac-1,1'-bis ( diphenylphos…

Linked Amido—Cyclopentadienyl Complexes of Group 3 and 4 Metals: The First “Post-Metallocenes”

1999

Linked amido—cyclopentadienyl ligands were introduced by Bercaw and Shapiro in the late eighties with the catalysts of the type Sc(η5:η1-C5Me4SiMe2N t Bu)X (X = H, alkyl) [1]. These electronically more unsaturated and sterically more accessible analogs of ansa-scandocene complexes were found to be capable of catalyzing the living oligomerization of the α-olefins propylene, 1-butene, and 1-pentene. In these complexes the steric constraint [2] of Brintzinger-type ansa-metallocenes is alleviated by the replacement of one cyclopentadienyl ligand by an amido ligand NR’ (Scheme 1). In order to explore sterically demanding derivatives of this dianionic ligand (C5R4ZNR’)2-, iron and titanium comple…

Bis- and Trisamides Derived From 1′-Aminoferrocene-1-carboxylic Acid and α-Amino Acids: Synthesis and Conformational Analysis

2009

Ferrocene derivatives with one or two achiral and chiral arms based on α-amino acids (Gly, l-Ala, l-Val) attached to the cyclopentadienyl rings were prepared by solution-phase peptide synthesis from N-acetyl- and N-Boc-protected 1′-aminoferrocene-1-carboxylic acids (Boc = tert-butoxycarbonyl). The conformational preference in the solid state of selected examples was elucidated by X-ray crystallography. The chiroptical properties of chiral bis- and trisamides were investigated by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy in solution. The conformational preference was studied by NMR and IR spectroscopy, as well as by molecular modeling (DFT). For the bisamides, a conformational library is observed…

Structural diversity in coordination chemistry of tridentate and tetradentate polyphosphines of Group 6 to 10 transition metal complexes

2003

Abstract Tridentate and tetradentate polyphosphines offer a huge variety of coordination modes to transition metals which lead, depending on the metal, to very different structural features in the resulting complexes. Steric effects being crucial in metal–phosphine complexes reactivity, a good knowledge of the molecular structures of the species is required both in the solid state and in solution. This article reviews from a structural point of view the monometallic and symmetrical homobimetallic complexes of the transition elements of Group 6 to 10 with tridentate and tetradentate phosphines. Concerning the classical triphosphines and tetraphosphines, emphasis was put on advances reported …
