Characterization of organic matter in topsoils under rain forest and pasture in the eastern Brazilian Amazon basin
1999
In topsoils under forest and 7-, 12- and 17-year-old pastures, organic matter was characterized by analysing C and N distribution in particle-size fractions, the C decomposition rates of soil and particle-size fractions and by employing density-fractionation of macro-organic matter (>150 μm). The C and N associated with clay fractions increased with increasing age of pasture. The weight (%) of macro-organic matter and its heavy fractions (>1.37 g cm–3) also increased with increasing age of pasture. However, in a long-term incubation (100 days), these changes seemed to involve an increase in the C decomposition rate in the topsoil of the oldest pasture. Using the C decomposition rates of par…
Surveillance of pesticide residues in fruits from Valencia during twenty months (2004/05)
2010
Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the pesticide residues in market fruits (oranges, tangerines, nectarines, peaches and khakis) from one Valencian Cooperative (Spain) and to conduct a monitoring of 32 organophosphorous, organonitrogen and organohalogenated pesticides and nine dithiocarbamate fungicides (DTCFs) usually applied on cultures of this area. Extracts were obtained by an official procedure for routine analysis based on ethyl acetate extraction. Residues of pesticides were determined by gas chromatography with nitrogen phosphorous detector (NPD), electron-capture detector (ECD) and mass spectrometry (MS) detectors. Mean recoveries obtained at fortification levels bet…
Optimal Hedging of Option Portfolios with Transaction Costs
2006
One of the most successful approaches to option hedging with transaction costs is the utility based approach pioneered by Hodges and Neuberger (1989). However, this approach has one major drawback that prevents the broad application of this approach in practice: the lack of a closed-form solution. The direct numerical computations of the utility based hedging strategy are cumbersome in a practical implementation. Despite some recent advances in finding an explicit description of the utility based hedging strategy by using either asymptotic, approximation, or other methods, so far they were concerned primarily with hedging a single plain-vanilla option. However, in practice one often faces t…
mTOR Driven Gene Transcription Is Required for Cholesterol Production in Neurons of the Developing Cerebral Cortex
2021
AbstractDysregulated mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) activity is associated with various neurodevelopmental disorders ranging from idiopathic autism spectrum disorders to syndromes caused by single gene defects. This suggests that maintaining mTOR activity levels in a physiological range is essential for brain development and functioning. Upon activation, mTOR regulates a variety of cellular processes such as cell growth, autophagy and metabolism. On a molecular level, however, the consequences of mTOR activation in the brain are not well understood.Low levels of cholesterol are associated with a wide variety of neurodevelopmental disorders. We here describe numerous genes of the stero…
CD8 T Cells Control Cytomegalovirus Latency by Epitope-Specific Sensing of Transcriptional Reactivation
2006
ABSTRACT During murine cytomegalovirus (mCMV) latency in the lungs, most of the viral genomes are transcriptionally silent at the major immediate-early locus, but rare and stochastic episodes of desilencing lead to the expression of IE1 transcripts. This low-frequency but perpetual expression is accompanied by an activation of lung-resident effector-memory CD8 T cells specific for the antigenic peptide 168-YPHFMPTNL-176, which is derivedfrom the IE1 protein. These molecular and immunological findings were combined in the “silencing/desilencing and immune sensing hypothesis” of cytomegalovirus latency and reactivation. This hypothesis proposes that IE1 gene expression proceeds to cell surfac…

The Pisum sativum psp54 gene requires ABI3 and a chromatin remodeller to switch from a poised to a transcriptionally active state
2011
Summary •Aspects of transcriptional regulation in plants, such as the order in which transcriptional factors and the preinitiation complex are assembled, are obscure because studies carried out under conditions in which native chromatin structure is preserved are still few in comparison with those carried out under other conditions. •In vivo chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) experiments were used here to study the regulation of Pisum sativum psp54, which codes for the precursor of a chromatin-associated protein in dry seeds. •Antibodies against PsSNF5, a component of the SWI/SNF remodelling complex, and against the transcriptional factor Pisum sativum abscisic acid insensitive 3 (PsABI3)…
Acetylenes Rearranging on Ruthenium-Porphyrinogen and Leading to Vinylidene and Carbene Functionalities.
2001
Through a proton-transfer reaction a porphyrinogen assists the transformation of terminal acetylenes into Ru-vinylidenes, which are the entry point to a variety of Ru-carbenes and Ru-cumulenes. The scheme (in which the porphyrinogen is stylized) shows the reversible interconversion of an acetylide into a divinylidene unit.
New coordination polymers based on a novel polynitrile ligand: Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of the series [M(tcnoetOH)2(4,4′-bpy)(H2O…
2008
International audience; A novel polynitrile anionic ligand, tcnoetOH−(=[(NC)2CC(OCH2CH2OH)C(CN)2]−), has been synthesized by a one-pot reaction from a cyclic acetal and malononitrile. This ligand has been successfully used to prepare, with 4,4′-bpy as co-ligand, a novel series of coordination polymers formulated as [M(tcnoetOH)2(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)2] with M(II) = Fe (1), Co (2) and Ni (3). These isostructural compounds present a linear chain structure consisting of octahedrally coordinated metal ions bridged by trans 4,4′-bpy ligands. The coordination sphere of the metal ions is completed with two terminal tcnoetOH− ligand and two water molecules. The magnetic properties indicate that the three …
Relation entre transitivité et structure de communauté dans les réseaux complexes
2011
The relation between community structure and other topological properties in complex networks, has not been analyzed clearly. In this preliminary study, we explore experimentally the potential link between transitivity and community structure. We study the evolution of transitivity based on the quality of the community structure on artificially generated networks. Then we observe the evolution of community structure according to transitivity value. The results show a relationship between high transitivity and community structure. Additional analytical work is needed to identify the exact nature of this relationship.
