A novel N-5-dinucleating ligand 4-amino-3,5-bis(bipyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole allows the preparation for the first time, and under mild conditions, of single and mixed amido(R-NH-)-bridged copper(II) complexes, the latter exhibiting very strong ferromagnetic coupling.

A series of mono- and heterodinuclear gold(I) and platinum(II) complexes with a new bipyridylamine-phosphine ligand have been synthesized and characterized. The X-ray structures of the ligand precursor 4-iodo-N,N-di(pyridin-2-yl)benzamide, and of one gold derivative are reported. All the complexes display antiproliferative properties in vitro in human cancer cells in the range of cisplatin or higher, which appear to correlate with compounds' uptake. Interestingly, studies of the interactions of the compounds with models of DNA indicate different mechanisms of actions with respect to cisplatin. The syndrome is both clinically and genetically heterogeneous, and to date, eight causative genes have been identified. The proteins encoded by these genes are part of a dynamic protein complex that is present in hair cells of the inner ear and in photoreceptor cells of the retina. Three new organometallic trimethylplatinum(IV) iodide complexes of 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridines have been synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Abstract Ternary copper(II) complexes [Cu(NST)2(phen)] (1) and [Cu(NST)2(NH3)2]·H2O (2) [HNST = N-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)naphthalene-1-sulfonamide] were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. Both 1 and 2 were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures show the presence of a distorted square planar CuN4 geometry in which the deprotonated sulfonamide, acting as monodentate ligand, binds to the metal ion through the thiazole N atom. The light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding protein of photosystem II (LHCIIb) fulfills multiple functions, such as light harvesting and energy dissipation under different illuminations. The crystal structure of LHCIIb at the near atomic resolution reveals an antiparallel strands structure in the lumenal loop between the transmembrane helices B/C. Inner nuclear membrane proteins containing a LEM (LAP2, emerin, and MAN1) domain participate in different processes, including chromatin organization, gene expression, and nuclear envelope biogenesis. In this study, we identify a robust genetic interaction between transcription export (TREX) factors and yeast Src1, an integral inner nuclear membrane protein that is homologous to vertebrate LEM2. DNA macroarray analysis revealed that the expression of the phosphate-regulated genes PHO11, PHO12, and PHO84 is up-regulated in src1Δ cells. Four gold(I) carbene complexes featuring 4-ferro-cenyl-substituted imidazol-2-ylidene ligands were investigated for antiproliferative and antivascular properties. They were active against a panel of seven cancer cell lines, including multidrug-resistant ones, with low micromolar or nanomolar IC50 (72 h) values, according to their lipophilicity and cellular uptake. The delocalized lipophilic cationic complexes 8 and 10 acted by increasing the reactive oxygen species in two ways: through a genuine ferrocene effect and by inhibiting the thioredoxin reductase.
