The development of high dimensional large-scale imaging devices increases the need of fast, robust and accurate image segmentation methods. Due to its intrinsic advantages such as the ability to extract complex boundaries, while handling topological changes automatically, the level set method (LSM) has been widely used in boundaries detection. Steiner systems and configurations of points

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to make a connection between design theory and algebraic geometry/commutative algebra. In particular, given any Steiner SystemS(t, n, v) we associate two ideals, in a suitable polynomial ring, defining a Steiner configuration of points and its Complement. We focus on the latter, studying its homological invariants, such as Hilbert Function and Betti numbers. Robust control of a Hammerstein model of DC/DC converters

This paper deals with the robust control of a Hammerstein mathematical model of DC/DC converters, consisting of the nonlinear static characteristics of the converter followed by one of a few number of linear time- invariant models which describe the converter in the useful working range. One of these models is assumed as the nominal model of the system and the remaining models are used for describing the model uncertainty. A new approach to the identification of cognitive conflicts in the repertory grid: A nomothetic study

Abstract Two separate but related investigations are reported. In the first, a score was derived from a construct correlation matrix obtained by grid data processing. This score, the Correlation Test (CT) score, expresses the percentage of unbalanced triads in the construct correlation matrix and is considered to assess logical inconsistency. The development of narrative productivity, syntactic complexity, referential cohesion and event content in four- to eight-year-old Finnish children

This study focuses on the development of narrative structure and the relationship between narrative productivity and event content. A total of 172 Finnish children aged between four and eight participated. Their picture-elicited narrations were analysed for productivity, syntactic complexity, referential cohesion and event content. Each measure showed a developmental trend. Concerning consecutive age groups, significant differences were observed between four- and five-year-olds in productivity and event content and between five- and six-year-olds in referential cohesion. This article compares the results of Mean Length of Utterance (MLU) and Index of Productive Syntax (IPSyn) with the structural complexity of spontaneous utterances produced by 30-month-old Finnish children in a semi-structured playing situation.
